WASHINGTON — A dozen House Democrats publicly criticized their colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., late Wednesday, accusing her of giving "cover" to terrorist and suggesting her remarks about Hamas and the Taliban reflect a "deep-seated prejudice." “Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the group, led by Rep. Brad Schneider, of Illinois, said in a statement, urging Omar to "clarify" her remarks. Omar responded to her critics by calling their statement "offensive" and defending her initial remarks. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban,” she wrote on Twitter, echoing her remarks on the video. In a follow-up tweet, Omar defend her initial remarks: “Citing an open case against Israel, US, Hamas & Taliban in the [The International Criminal Court] isn’t comparison or from 'deeply seated prejudice'.

Money spent operating littoral combat ships could instead go to deploying more powerful vessels with vastly greater combat capabilities. The Pentagon wants to decommission four littoral combat ships, on top of two others it has already received permission to take out of service. In other words, money spent operating littoral combat ships could instead go to deploying more powerful vessels with vastly greater combat capability. Littoral ships could still handle tasks that don't require big ships, such as protecting convoys from submarines, neutralizing minefields and tackling low-grade missions against pirates and drug smugglers. That's why the Navy wants to reduce its littoral combat ship inventory: It might mean fewer ships in total but more ships that are useful in a fight.

Inside the Capitol for Impeachment: National Guard in Every Corner

WASHINGTON — They slept on the marble floors, lined up for coffee in the 24-hour snack bar and marveled at the marble likenesses of the nation’s founders in the Rotunda and Statuary Hall. They snapped photos with their phones, ate pizza and sometimes played cards, their M4 carbines at their sides. Throngs of armed, camouflage fatigue-clad members of the National Guard ringed the Capitol and lined its halls on Wednesday, weapons, helmets and backpacks stacked seemingly in every corner of the complex. The heavily militarized presence provided a jarring and sobering backdrop to the House chamber as a majority of lawmakers moved to impeach a sitting American president for inciting an insurrection on the nation’s Capitol. It evoked reminders of the rioters who just one week earlier had stormed the complex as its terrified occupants took shelter inside the barricaded House chamber and secure locations across the Capitol — and the recriminations that remained before President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s inauguration.

At a House hearing a little more than a year ago, Rep. Elaine Luria criticized the Navy's newest, most expensive aircraft carrier to date, calling it a "nuclear powered floating barge that's not deployable." Aviation ordnancemen aboard USS Gerald R. Ford bring inert training bombs up to the flight deck, May 30, 2020. Each of Ford's elevators is different and runs on a redesigned electromagnetic system, an upgrade from the pulley-based elevators on the Nimitz class, Downey said. It joined the fleet in 2017, eight years after the final Nimitz-class carrier, USS George H.W. The aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy is launched into the James River on February 28, 2020.

"The enthusiasm that seems to be animating Democrats nationally is evident in this 2nd District race," said Wason Center research director Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo. The Wason Center found in the same poll that 2nd District voters prefer Democrat Joe Biden over Trump by 9 points. But Virginia voters in Delmarva have undergone a change since 2016, Stone explained, as military-heavy districts across Virginia began to doubt Trump's respect for the Pentagon's top brass. Surf and turfConsistent with trends seen across the country, 2nd District voters say the economy is the most pressing issue driving their choice at the ballot box this year, according to the Wason Center. Nearly a quarter (24%) of district voters say the economy is their No.
