A widely-shared video of a car and a tree being washed away during floods was shot in Maracay, Venezuela in 2022 not – as many are wrongly saying online - in Santiago, Chile in 2023. Two people died and thousands have been evacuated or left homeless after rains caused flooding in central-southern Chile, Reuters reported on Aug. 21, 2023 (here). Examples of posts wrongly describing the 2022 Venezuela video as a scene from Chile can be seen on Facebook (here) and on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter (here) (here). A building with the words “Walio Supermercado” (ibb.co/qd4rkgV) can be seen in the background in a longer version of the clip (imgur.com/gallery/yNNfEyf). Video shows floods in Venezuela in October 2022, not Chile in August 2023.

By 1993, Colombian authorities, the US government, and rival criminals were all after Pablo Escobar. "Perseguidos por Pablo Escobar," or People Persecuted by Pablo Escobar — known as Los Pepes — was made up of rival drug traffickers, paramilitaries, and others scorned by the Medellín cartel boss. His son, Juan Pablo Escobar Henao, who has changed his name to Sebastián Marroquín, has insisted that his father took his own life on that Medellín rooftop. "I have no doubt" that Pablo Escobar planned his own death, Marroquín said in a 2014 interview. The question of who killed Pablo Escobar is likely to go unresolved, probably by design.

Receding water levels due to drought in Europe are unearthing old sites and artifacts. Since early 2022, Europe has experienced an extended period of unusually high temperatures and severe lack of rainfall. From megalithic monuments to ancient bridges, sites and artifacts continue to be unearthed by the 2022 drought in Europe. Pablo Blazquez Dominguez/Getty ImagesIn late July, receding water levels in Spain's Valdecanas reservoir dropped to 28% percent of its capacity, revealing the Dolmen of Guadalperal, dubbed "Spanish Stonehenge," Reuters reported. In June, receding water levels due to the intense drought resurfaced a sunken shipwreck of a World War II-era barge.
