This simple solution took root in McGriff’s mind and started her journey helping women and girls transform their lives. Tasked with creating a business or nonprofit for a class project, she remembered the notion of the school uniform and developed an idea. The ‘uniform that grows’That first year, the group hired local seamstresses and provided uniforms and school fees to 65 girls. “It’s all (done) with this tone of empowering girls and helping girls to understand their rights and their opportunities in society,” she said. Eventually, McGriff hopes SHE can become self-sustaining so her role can be further reduced, which has been her goal from the beginning.

Minutes after the humiliating defeat, in an apparent attempt to call voters’ bluff, Macron said he could not ignore the message sent by voters and took the “serious, heavy” decision to call a snap election – France’s first since 1997. The first round of votes eliminates weaker candidates ahead of the second round next Sunday. Typically, only a handful of deputies will be elected this way – but most will go to a second round. Only those who win more than 12.5% of ballots cast by registered voters are allowed to stand in the second round. Attal was reportedly among the last of Macron’s inner circle to learn that a snap election was imminent.

CNN —France’s snap parliamentary election is one of the most momentous in decades, for both the country and the rest of Europe. Politicians rarely call an election when their party trails in the polls and there is no need to do so. Although Macron was elected to a second presidential term in 2022, his party failed to win an outright parliamentary majority. One theory about why Macron called an election now is that France might soon have been forced to the polls anyway. With Le Pen seeming increasingly likely to succeed him as president in 2027, this election may force her party to take up responsibility beforehand.

CNN —Hey, parents, leave your kids alone. There is the obvious threat of school shootings, which is surely one reason why parents may want their children to have phones on them. Several parents told me that they also strive to stay connected to their kids in emergencies, while minimizing distractions at school. Social media platforms need to do their part in restricting access to their platforms for young kids. And school leadership need to stand up, even in the face of anxious or demanding parents.

The price of the flagship cryptocurrency was last higher by 6% at $60,391.10, according to Coin Metrics. Bitcoin has soared more than 18% this week alone, after a week-long pause of this year's rally. "The economics of bitcoin dictate that it should continue to drive higher." Specifically, the halving, an event mandated in the Bitcoin code, reduces the bitcoin mining reward by half in order to limit the supply. "Institutional capital is still getting up to speed with bitcoin ETFs – platform approvals, advisor education, client education – I expect a lot more demand is still under the surface and yet to be seen."

Research suggests that higher education correlates with higher earnings. In four states, more than 60% of working age people had some form of post-high school education – exceeding the foundation’s broader goal. Nevada landed at the very bottom of the list, with an educational attainment rate of 42.7%. In the most recent version of the rankings, Massachusetts, Colorado and Vermont were ranked the highest for educational attainment. Post-high school educational attainment percentages for Black, Hispanic, Latino and Native American adults were all far below the national average, according to the report.

The DeSantis and Haley camps each believed they would benefit if the other left the field and created an unambiguous one-on-one race with Trump. In fact, both the Trump and DeSantis campaigns believe that more of the Florida governor’s supporters will likely pick Trump. Any gain or loss for Haley among voters from DeSantis’ decision seems likely to affect the race only marginally, many GOP observers believe. Even at that point in the 2016 race, Trump had won only a cumulative 40% of the votes cast in the GOP primaries. His theory that he could peel away a meaningful number of previous Trump voters simply proved wrong.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” the report concluded. Ethics panel concludes sexual harassment allegation against Santos was not substantiatedThe House Ethics panel said there was not substantial evidence to support a sexual harassment allegation brought against Santos. But the report also indicates that there was some tension between the overlapping DOJ criminal probe and House ethics probe. The ethics panel reached out to the Justice Department to deconflict their investigations, and top DOJ officials asked them in March to pause the ethics probe. The House report says DOJ’s “deferral requests” prevented them from getting to the bottom of certain allegations.

The letter, dated November 1, comes after the college was accused by wealthy donors and alumni of alleged failure to condemn antisemitism and hate following the attack. A similar letter from Norman was sent the same day to other universities such as Yale, Columbia and Harvard. Controversy began when a multiday event took place in September on campus at UPenn called the Palestine Writes Literature Festival. “This is an incredibly challenging moment in the world, and we are feeling its reverberations on our campus,” Magill wrote. “We can and will do better to combat antisemitism and to reject hate in all its forms.”UPenn didn’t immediately respond for comment about the letter.

CNN —When John Flores and Michael Leitz were looking for a home in which to spend the next stage of their lives, they realized that where they lived in San Francisco was too expensive. Instead, they began looking further afield – eventually buying a beautiful 120-year-old, three-story home in rural Spain for less than $50,000. Finding the right place and relocating to another country was by no means easy for Flores and Leitz. As is often the case in rural Spain, many records had been lost over the years. “We bought the most beautiful antique rural Spanish furniture there.”Work to renovate the house took about six months, but that followed the considerable time taken to get building permission from local authorities.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —Raising a child in South Korea is no easy task. As a result, the hagwon industry in South Korea is massive, and profitable. Of the nearly 60,000 middle and high school students surveyed nationwide, almost a quarter of males and one in three females reported experiencing depression. Activists say South Korea needs deeper change instead, such as dismantling entrenched gender norms and introducing more support for working parents. The Supreme Court’s gutting of affirmative action in college admissions on Thursday toppled another pillar of America’s liberal social infrastructure. The wider political battleThe court’s activism is being complimented by increasingly radical conservative legislatures in many states. The Supreme Court ruled that June that same-sex couples could marry in all 50 states and upheld the Affordable Care Act. And President Joe Biden’s view of the conservative majority on the bench could hardly be more dark. This allowed Trump to name Justice Neil Gorsuch as his first Supreme Court nominee in 2017.

That’s how long it takes to complete a college degree, and that’s how long Syria has been at war. Many Syrian students would be graduating from university this year, but instead they have been forced to abandon, or at least put on indefinite hold, their dreams of an education. We hope to meet our needs today, not so much to fulfill our dreams tomorrow. It’s not like sitting at home, feeling powerless, losing confidence, wondering what I can do to help my family, to help my people. Each person has the right to pursue an education, to meet their most basic needs, to express themselves.
