"I have friends that say that TikTok Shop has ruined the app," Casey Lewis, a trends researcher, said. "It can be good — especially as TikTok moves to TikTok Shop — if they're able to capitalize on this shift and sell products more effectively to older users." Just because something is going viral on TikTok doesn't necessarily mean Gen Z is behind it. The same could be said of Gen Z, which would explain the generations' shared fascination with a time before smartphones and round-the-clock news. The Gen Z users I spoke with didn't seem particularly concerned about an influx of olds.

Washington CNN —Top Republicans are already rushing to buy into a new 2024 election fraud narrative sown by ex-President Donald Trump in their zeal to appease their party’s presumptive nominee. The new Republican trend of casting doubt on the integrity of the 2024 election in advance was exhibited by Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. Despite Trump’s claims of voting irregularities, multiple courts, including the US Supreme Court, rejected the former president’s claims he was cheated out of power. The positioning looks a lot like laying the groundwork for a challenge to the fairness of the 2024 election if Trump loses in November. The idea that the 2024 election may not be free and fair was also raised recently by Ohio Sen. J.D.

Middle managers are becoming an endangered species in Corporate America, with some companies viewing the role as obsolete , writes Business Insider's Lindsay Dodgson. Remote work, tech efficiencies, and a general push to cut costs have contributed to middle managers' demise. It's a strategy Corporate America, particularly Big Tech, deployed in 2023. The "year of efficiency," as Mark Zuckerberg dubbed it, was all about flattening organizations, and middle managers were the ones getting squished . The death of middle managers could also fuel the current dismantling of another cohort: the middle class .

For years, Gallup has asked investors exactly that question, and since 2013 the most popular answer has been the same: real estate. It's tough to say what the best long-term investing option is without knowing the desired outcome." You can invest in real estate via real estate investment trusts, which trade like stocks, or ETFs that hold them. As you pay down your mortgage, you build equity in a piece of real estate that also appreciates in value. Among Americans making less than $40,000 per year, 33% choose real estate as their No.

Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Andrew Slimmon has been consistently bullish on stocks — even during periods of volatility. Given the "sky high" inflation numbers in 2022 and 2023, Slimmon said, it's "only natural" that inflation would be on a downward trajectory as the year-on-year comparisons were "relatively easy." Last week, the April consumer price index report in the U.S. showed that inflation eased slightly for the month. "The problem is, as we get into May number, June numbers, July numbers of last year, those CPI numbers really came down quite a bit," Slimmon told CNBC's " Street Signs Asia. In a Wednesday interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Williams-Sonoma CEO Laura Alber explained how her company handles a tough housing market. "The customer isn't shopping for as much furniture as they were because of the housing slump, but they are, you know, still updating their homes," Alber said. Williams-Sonoma owns several brands besides its own namesake homewares business, including West Elm and Pottery Barn. The company reported an earnings beat on Wednesday, but saw weakness in its Pottery Barn brand. But then how can you reconcile this vague confidence with the fact that, in so many other matters, the same recipe writer can be so specific? Take an onion, which, for many recipes, accomplishes what “once upon a time” does in so many stories. the recipe reader thinks. There are so many variables, none of which we writers seem to be in sync about in the slightest.

Nvidia has been the biggest story of Wall Street's rally to record highs, but the options market appears to be underestimating the impact of its earnings report Wednesday, according to Goldman Sachs. "NVDA options suggest investors expect this earnings report to be unusually important; NVDA options imply a +/-11.9% earnings-day move vs. its 4-quarter historical earnings-day move of +/-10.8%. The importance of this earnings report is easy to see given NVDA options volume has been 36% of all single stock options volumes over the past three months," the note said. The S & P 500 is a market cap-weighted index, meaning that Nvidia has taken on extra importance over the past two years. The options market has underpriced S & P 500 moves following the previous four Nvidia reports as well, according to Goldman.
