London Stadium, London CNN —As the sun descended in east London, so did tens of thousands of baseball fans as America’s pastime once again made its way across the Atlantic Ocean to England’s capital. The seven-time All-Star’s Great British love-in continued throughout the weekend, and in the opening game of the series, Harper played the starring role. If these international events are put on to attract new fans, Harper was certainly doing his best to persuade them to follow baseball. Kaitlin Olson (far left), McElhenney (second from right), former Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley (far right) and Harper participate in opening ceremonies. The wait is now on to see which two teams will do battle in the next edition of the London Series.

Several major hospitals in London have been crippled by a cyberattack, Britain’s National Health Service said, causing surgical procedures to be canceled, disrupting blood transfusions and forcing patients to be diverted. A ransomware cyberattack on Synnovis, an organization that manages blood transfusions and other services, on Monday had significantly disrupted the delivery of services at King’s College and Guy’s and St. Thomas’ hospital trusts, which run several major hospitals. The attack has also caused disruptions to primary care offices in southeast London. Mark Dollar, the chief executive of Synnovis, said on Tuesday that the company was working to understand the impact of the attack on its pathology services and to minimize disruption. “It is still early days and we are trying to understand exactly what has happened,” he said in a statement.

There were mounting calls for Assange to leave WikiLeaks and, when he didn’t, many cut ties with it. The shops have prompted both curiosity and innovation, adding to London’s long history of bagels — or “beigels,” as they were originally known here. Many of the new shops have similar stories: During the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, homesick New Yorkers in London started experimenting with bagel baking at home. Once the pandemic hit, Mr. Gomez, missing New York and dreaming of bagels, started watching bagel-making videos on YouTube and testing out recipes. Another bagel connoisseur, Francesca Goldhill, of London, spent hours in her mother’s kitchen trying to find a recipe that produced bagels similar to those from Brooklyn Bagel, her favorite when she lived in New York. She opened Bagels + Schmear in Hertfordshire, outside London, in 2022.

Southeast London has temporarily lost one of its most famous residents: a giant taxidermy walrus that has been on display for more than a century. For most of the past 120 years, the walrus has sat in the middle of the Natural History Gallery at the Horniman Museum and Gardens. The museum displays the collection of Frederick Horniman, a wealthy tea trader who lived in Victorian England. The collection will include more context about how Mr. Horniman came to own the walrus. The museum’s website notes that Mr. Horniman’s wealth was “reliant on the exploitation of people living in the British Empire.”

London’s public transportation system may soon become a bit easier to navigate. The train lines on London’s Overground, a rail system that largely serves people in neighborhoods outside of central London beyond the reach of the city’s Underground system, will be renamed. The lines on the map will also receive new colors, replacing a system that is currently marked entirely with orange lines on maps. While the Overground is technically a different system than the Underground, popularly known as the tube, the same payment method applies to both, and multiple stations connect the two systems. The new names are: Lioness, named after the English women’s soccer team; Mildmay, honoring a small East London hospital with a pivotal role caring for patients during the AIDS crisis; Windrush, after the ship that brought some of the first migrants from the Caribbean to Britain; Weaver, which travels through an area once known for its textile trade; Suffragette, after the movement that fought for women’s right to vote; and Liberty, which references the historical independence of the people of the Havering borough.

But she credits a large part of her success to advice her mother gave her when she was little. "I really value myself and I really value my goals, and I don't think [success] is much more complicated than that," Grede, who has a reported net worth of $320 million, said on the podcast. The lesson taught Grede that she could learn alongside her peers at any job, then carry that knowledge onward when it was time for bigger and better things, she said.

The British musician Yazmin Lacey, 35, sings in a mellow, textured voice, often just behind the beat. She’s been selling out dates for her first headlining tour, which began in Warsaw in November, in support of her debut LP, “Voice Notes.” (She plans to add U.S. dates in 2024.) Before “Voice Notes,” she released a trio of EPs (the first of which, “Black Moon,” appeared in 2017) while working full time with a youth support program in Nottingham. But with this LP, she’s made music her sole career. “Voice Notes” takes its title from the stream-of-consciousness audio messages Lacey leaves for her friends and the spontaneous melodies and ideas she records on her phone.
