Thirteen months ago, Andy Sieg unexpectedly left Merrill Wealth Management to run Citi's ailing wealth unit. His replacements, Lindsay Hans and Eric Schimpf, had big shoes to fill. Hans and Schimpf were company veterans but lesser known before they were anointed to lead the $3 trillion wealth business attached to behemoth Bank of America. Schimpf is more soft-spoken than his cohead Hans, who was promoted to run the private wealth business one month before Sieg left. The settlement will eliminate the long-standing standard 6% commission paid by the seller, which could ultimately make it cheaper to sell your home post-settlement. The case for getting in on spring homebuying seasonThe settlement could present a major downside to homebuyers. Under the current system, the buyer’s agent’s commission is baked into the total they pay for a home. On top of that, they may be able to avoid having to pay the buyer’s agent’s commission. But in his view, the NAR settlement shouldn’t be a major consideration when it comes to timing.

Now, a landmark settlement with the National Association of Realtors is poised to upend this model. According to consumer advocates, and even some Realtors, it's a win for homebuyers and sellers. And in the months following Covid-19 pandemic reopenings, the hottest U.S. real estate markets were tipped squarely in favor of sellers. It's the same amount of money, but now the buyer gets money instead of a buyer agent, and they can decide what to do with it." What's more, greater competition for clients is likely to result in lower costs across the board, said Ryan Tomasello, a real estate industry analyst with the Keefe, Bruyette & Woods financial firm.

Donald Trump cannot obtain a bond to secure the $454 million civil business fraud judgment against him as he pursues an appeal of the case, his attorneys said in a New York court filing Monday. Attorneys for Trump and his co-defendants in the fraud case argued that it was "impossible" for them to secure a complete appeal bond, which would "effectively" require "cash reserves approaching $1 billion." Trump in a deposition last year claimed to have "substantially in excess of $400 million in cash." But Monday's filing nevertheless asserted that obtaining a bond for the full $464 million judgment is unattainable. The defendants had previously offered to post a $100 million bond, less than one-fourth the total judgment, in order to pause James from collecting the penalties during the appeal process.

The loan, along with billions of dollars in cash inflows from Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, are Band-Aids, experts say, designed to keep the Arab world’s most populous country afloat. Without proper reforms, however, Egypt may never be able to shake off its chronic financial woes and break its growing debt addiction. Billions of dollars from Abu Dhabi and Riyadh have poured into the Egyptian economy in recent years. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) also launched the Saudi Egyptian Investment Company (SEIC) in August, a company dedicated to investments in several vital sectors of the Egyptian economy. Still, the Egyptian economy has struggled to shake off its economic woes.

Lebanon hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the world. The plan would not involve the United Nations, which maintains that conditions in Syria do not allow for the large-scale return of refugees. The Lebanon office of the U.N. refugee agency, UNHCR, said it was "not facilitating or promoting the large-scale voluntary repatriation of refugees to Syria." New York-based advocacy group Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in July that "Syria is anything but safe for returnees". In its September report, the United Nations' Syria commission said the country was still not safe for returnees.
