Regional rivals China and India are the biggest bilateral lenders to Sri Lanka, a country of 22 million people that is facing its worst economic crisis in seven decades. India wrote to the IMF earlier this month, saying it would commit to supporting Sri Lanka with financing and debt relief, but the island nation also needs the backing of China in order to reach a final agreement with the global lender. However, China's Jan. 19 letter, sent to the finance ministry, may not be enough for Sri Lanka to immediately gain the IMF's approval for the critical loan, Sri Lankan sources with knowledge of the matter said. According to the letter, China EximBank said it was going to provide "an extension on the debt service due in 2022 and 2023 as an immediate contingency measure" based on Sri Lanka's request.

ABIDJAN, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Ivory Coast has completed construction of a second container terminal at its main port in Abidjan, paving the way for it to become a regional shipping hub, officials said late on Friday. The new container terminal will be able to receive large ships from Asia, Europe and America that previously had to land goods in South Africa, transferring them to smaller ships to reach West Africa. "We are no longer a second port. We are becoming a hub," said Andre N'Doli, technical director of the terminal, called Cote d'Ivoire Terminal (CIT). The terminal is expected to allow Abidjan to increase container traffic to 3 million TEU containers from 1.2 million TEU containers per year, port authorities said.

Creditors and investors are closely monitoring how China, the world's largest bilateral lender, is managing debt negotiations around the world. Уровень концентрации 4-х средних банков в 2020 г. незначительно снизился – с 15,8% до 15,7%. Концентрация активов в других 3-х банках выросла с 5,7% до 5,9%: в «BCR Chişinau» этот показатель составил 2,9% (-0,3 п.п. Показатель HHI по объему выданных кредитов снизился с 2015,4 в 2019 г. до 1961,8 в 2020 г., а уровень концентрации 4-х крупных банков сократился на 0,5 п.п.
