Sandra Dolores Yawn has been locked up, left for dead on a Florida highway and chased through the Red Sea by pirates. Not because she thought Ms. Yawn, who goes by Captain Sandy, needed her well wishes, but because she had started watching “Below Deck Mediterranean” on Bravo. Ms. Shafer had written to congratulate her on the show’s success. Yawn, 59, has been a yacht captain for more than 30 years.

Exscientia's growth was bolstered by government support: The company didn't take venture funding until 2019. Exscientia wouldn't be where it was, Taylor said, without the support of the UK higher education system and government funding. Martin Tangney, the chief scientific officer of Edinburgh-based Celtic Renewables, said the £11 million of funding his company received in 2015 from the UK government was "pivotal." CNN —Ancient DNA recovered from the remains of a sixth century Chinese emperor who ruled during the country’s dark ages has shed some light on what the leader may have looked like. Emperor Wu ruled China as part of the Northern Zhou dynasty from 560 to 580 and is credited with unifying the northern part of ancient China during a particularly chaotic period. “Our analysis shows Emperor Wu had typical East or Northeast Asian facial characteristics.”The authors said they hoped ancient DNA might shed light on Wu’s cause of death. The genetic analysis showed that Emperor Wu intermarried with ethnically Han Chinese, China’s dominant ethnic group today. “It’s interesting to see the genetic study, but none of the findings of this genetic study are surprising at all,” Miller said.

Yousaf's parents-in-law live in Scotland but were visiting relatives in Gaza when Hamas militants poured into Israel and killed 1,300 people last weekend. "There is no doubt that collective punishment is a breach of international law," he said. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told parliament on Monday that Israel must defend itself in line with international humanitarian law. Diplomatic efforts are continuing to get aid into the enclave as food, fuel and water run short. He added that his brother-in-law, who works as a doctor, is having to make decisions about who should be treated, while the hospitals in Gaza run out of body bags.

LONDON--The wife of Scotland’s political leader said her parents are trapped in Gaza and are terrified for themselves and their extended family. Nadia El-Nakla, who is married to Scotland’s first minister Humza Yousaf, said her parents traveled to Gaza from their home in Dundee to visit relatives last week and were now stuck in the territory amid Israeli retaliation for the Hamas attack days earlier. “They are just terrified, absolutely terrified, about what is to come and what is happening right now as we speak,” she told BBC News on Wednesday. She said her aunt’s house was damaged by an Israeli attack. Yousaf, the son of Pakistani immigrants, has strongly condemned the Hamas attack and called on the U.K. government to pressure Israel and Egypt into allowing civilians to flee via the Egyptian border crossing.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft landed on the lunar surface near the moon's south pole on Wednesday. The historic occasion marked the country as a global space power and only the fourth nation to achieve a lunar landing. Chandrayaan-3 has already returned several images and rolled out its Pragyan rover on the lunar surface. Meanwhile, Russia’s Luna 25 lander crashed into the moon, causing experts to question the country’s future lunar ambitions. Some posts on social media in the wake of the fires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, however, suggested that the fact some trees had remained standing showed proof that the fires were somehow engineered or steered to intentionally burn homes and vehicles, leaving trees unscathed. Reuters photographs and satellite imagery of the Lahaina Banyan Court area produced by Maxar Technologies shows buildings, vehicles and trees damaged following the fires (shorturl.at/bpsTX), (here). Other trees were more heavily damaged, but remained standing, Reuters pictures show (here), (here). Regardless, the fact that some trees could remain standing or were less damaged than cars or buildings during a fire is not abnormal. Trees sometimes survive severe damage during fires due to factors including their water content and the ways a fire spreads.

CNN —Researchers at the University of Dundee have recreated the face of Bonnie Prince Charlie as he appeared when leading the unsuccessful 18th century Jacobite rebellion as he sought to reclaim the British throne for his father. In the image, Bonnie Prince Charlie appears with blonde curly hair, wide eyes and acne on his skin, revealing a different side to the more conventionally heroic figure he has traditionally been depicted as. I did want to show a different angle with that.”The image was created using death masks of the prince, which were photographed and mapped. Using state-of-the-art software, 3D models were then produced, allowing researchers to “de-age” the prince, the university added. A portrait of Bonnie Prince Charlie painted in 1738 by Louis Gabriel Blanchet, is on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London,.

But while the Scottish-born forward's contract is due to expire at the end of June, Cummings stressed his immediate intention was to celebrate the Mariners' first title since 2013. Mariners operate on one of the A-League's smallest budgets and Montgomery acknowledged that Cummings was unlikely to be the only departure. "We're a selling club, the club needs to sell players to survive," he said. The possible departures include Montgomery, who has seen his stock rise after overcoming significant financial limitations to end the Mariners' trophy drought. "The world's his oyster," Cummings said of Montgomery, who took over at the Mariners' two years ago.

Orange juice prices are projected to spike due to the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Florida is a major producer of citrus, but the USDA estimates a 32% decrease in production this upcoming season. Florida growers have been adapting to challenges for decades caused by natural disasters and invasive insects. Central Florida, home to sprawling citrus groves responsible for the vast production of fresh oranges and orange juice across the country, took a hit when Hurricane Ian recently ravaged the state. And although prices are climbing and citrus might be in short supply, the demand for vitamin C is still there.
