Where it's being heldThe AI summit will be held in Bletchley Park, the historic landmark around 55 miles north of London. What it seeks to addressThe main objective of the U.K. AI summit is to find some level of international coordination when it comes to agreeing some principles on the ethical and responsible development of AI models. The British government wants the AI Summit to serve as a platform to shape the technology's future. They say that, by keeping the summit restricted to only frontier AI models, it is a missed opportunity to encourage contributions from members of the tech community beyond frontier AI. "By focusing only on companies that are currently building frontier models and are leading that development right now, we're also saying no one else can come and build the next generation of frontier models."

NEW DELHI, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The Indian government is allowing banks to verify individual transactions that exceed a certain annual limit using facial recognition and an iris scan in some cases, in a bid to reduce fraud and tax evasion, three sources told Reuters. The prospect of banks using facial recognition has concerned some privacy experts. "This raises substantial privacy concerns especially when India lacks a dedicated law on privacy, cybersecurity and facial recognition," said Pavan Duggal, an advocate and cyber law expert. The government has said it is targeting parliamentary approval of a new privacy law by early 2023. The Aadhaar card has a unique number tied to an individual's fingerprints, face and eye scan.
OAKLAND, Calif., Jan 4 (Reuters) - Mobile chip maker Qualcomm Technologies, Inc (QCOM.O) on Wednesday unveiled a processor chip for the car called Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC that handles both assisted driving and cockpit functions, including entertainment. Previously those functions were handled on different chips and merging them can help bring down costs, said Nakul Duggal, Qualcomm’s head of automotive. The extra external components that you need, those go down,” Duggal told Reuters. Qualcomm has been steadily building up its automotive business in recent years and in September it said its automotive business "pipeline" increased to $30 billion. Duggal said automotive customers are already trying out the new chip and it would be commercially available in the first half of next year.
NEW DELHI, Nov 30 (Reuters) - India will sustain its high growth rate through more government capital spending, the finance minister said in an interview at the Reuters NEXT conference on Wednesday, adding that she saw signs of a pick-up in private investments too. "We would continue to push capital expenditure, and that I’m saying even as I’m preparing for the next budget," Nirmala Sitharaman said. She said the government sees the "capital expenditure route as one of those which can guarantee good growth". A customer hands Indian currency notes to an attendant at a fuel station in Mumbai, India, August 13, 2018. The Fed's decision sent the dollar to a new 20-year high and the rupee to a record low of 80.61. The Reserve Bank of India has been selling dollars to alleviate the depreciation pressure on the rupee due to the surging dollar and foreign portfolio outflows. All this points to a structurally weaker rupee," said Dhananjay Sinha, chief economist at Systematix Shares & Stocks. Sinha said the rupee is overvalued by about 5-5.5% on a real effective exchange rate (REER) basis.
