CNN —New analyses of the longest clinical trial yet of the weight-loss drug Wegovy are shedding light on how quickly it helps people lose weight, how long they sustain that weight loss and how safe the medicine is over four years of use. A previous clinical trial showed even greater average weight loss for Wegovy: about 15% on average over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% for people who got a placebo. It was sustained for up to four yearsThe results showed that the 10% average weight loss for people using Wegovy was sustained for up to 208 weeks, or four years. Patients stayed on the medicine while they sustained the weight loss. Almost 23% of people on Wegovy lost at least 15% of their body weight, compared with 1.7% on a placebo.

As Ulta Beauty says it expects a slowdown in retail's most resilient category, an upstart says it is bucking the trend. Excluding one-time items, Oddity reported earnings of 61 cents per share. Analysts had expected revenue of $186.5 million and earnings per share of 56 cents, according to LSEG. Oddity believes beauty and wellness products are best sold online, and that consumers will not need to visit beauty shops such as Ulta and Sephora if product selection can be improved. Last month, Ulta Beauty CEO Dave Kimbell warned that demand for beauty products was cooling, sending its stock down 15% that day and hitting shares of e.l.f.

A few hours before the interview was set to begin, the agents were startled to hear that the Justice Department was telling them to cancel the long-planned meeting. The interview was never rescheduled, and the investigation would limp along for another few years before culminating, in late 2022, with a victory for Caterpillar. The criminal investigation was closed without charges being filed — and even without agents having the chance to review records seized from the company. Caterpillar appears to have defused the investigation at least in part by deploying a type of raw legal power that rarely becomes publicly visible. This account is based on interviews with people familiar with the investigation, regulatory filings and internal Justice Department emails provided to Senate investigators and reviewed by The New York Times.

Was the Emerson the Emerson to the end? “We were afraid of going on too long,” Setzer said recently, and Sunday suggested that he, Drucker and Dutton have stopped at the timeliest of moments, without cause for regret. Nobody could pretend that Sunday saw the Emerson reclaim the heights from which it conquered chamber music, though it was hardly far-off. If its most celebrated predecessors, the Juilliard after World War II and the Guarneri later on, were responsible for a boom in American quartet playing, then it was the Emerson’s part to demonstrate how accomplished a quartet could become. It did not take the Emerson long to set the formidable technical standards that we take for granted among chamber musicians today.

“The sound, the gravitas, the way they treat each other is so beautiful,” the soprano Barbara Hannigan, an Emerson collaborator, said in an interview. I’ve never seen any tension between them. Listening to the Guarneri Quartet, younger but already august, the Emerson took on a polished, burnished, sheerly beautiful tone. (For certain listeners, on certain nights, that beauty could tip into blandness.) “But there was the greatness of the repertoire for string quartet.

Photo: Spencer Platt/Getty ImagesIn the aftermath of World War II, as America’s industrial economy was taking shape, management scholar Peter Drucker worried whether business was up to meeting one of its most important responsibilities: offering “equal opportunities for advancement.”“Although the opportunities are infinitely great in a big organization, the chances of being overlooked and the danger of being misplaced and forgotten in a corner are even greater,” Drucker wrote in his 1946 book “Concept of the Corporation.” Every company, he added, “has to find ways of giving its workers…a chance to show what they can do.”
