It remains unclear whether his decision to bypass any reconciliation with Ms. Haley will matter as November approaches. Mr. McCormick won an unopposed Republican primary for Senate in Pennsylvania, pitting him against Mr. Casey, the Democratic incumbent. Mr. Trump helped sink Mr. McCormick’s first run when he backed a rival candidate, the celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick will be the only eligible names on ballots for the office in Pennsylvania's April primary after a ruling Friday by the state's highest court. The state Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a Republican candidate, Joe Vodvarka, who had been ordered off primary ballots by a lower court that found he had not received enough voter signatures to qualify. The state Supreme Court, in its two-line order, did not explain its decision. Courts earlier in March had already granted challenges to the paperwork of two other candidates filing for the primary ballot for U.S. Senate. Both Brandi Tomasetti, a Republican from Lancaster County, and William Parker, a Democrat from Allegheny County, were ordered off ballots.

I held deep reservations about Bridgewater’s exposure to the moral and patriotic hazards of doing business in China,” McCormick said in September 2023 before officially launching his campaign. That amounts to a 108,000% increase in Chinese holdings over a five-year period. In 2017, Bridgewater reported investing in just one US exchange traded Chinese company; by the final quarter of 2021, its holdings included 47 Chinese companies. McCormick’s hedge fund also held an additional $779 million indirectly in Chinese companies through their investments in exchange traded funds.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republican David McCormick is expected to announce Thursday that he will enter Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race and make his second bid for the office, this time to take on Democratic Sen. Bob Casey after losing in last year’s crowded Republican primary. McCormick's aides have sent invites to a “special announcement” by McCormick at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. McCormick, 58, was heavily recruited to run again by the party establishment and, thus far, has a clear GOP primary field. He is a stalwart of Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party — the son of a former two-term governor and Pennsylvania's longest-ever serving Democrat in the Senate. McCormick, who grew up near Bloomsburg, is the son of Pennsylvania’s first state university system chancellor.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republicans trying to recapture the U.S. Senate majority have the candidate they want in Pennsylvania. Almost since the moment he lost last year's Senate GOP primary, McCormick has floated the possibility that he would again seek the party's nomination for the U.S. Senate, this time to challenge three-term Democratic Sen. Bob Casey. “At this point, if Dave McCormick doesn't run, it'll be the biggest head fake in Pennsylvania political history,” said Vince Galko, a Republican campaign strategist based in northeastern Pennsylvania. For a party that has struggled — both nationally and in Pennsylvania — with nominating polarizing and badly flawed candidates for Senate, some in Pennsylvania worry that another fringe candidate could capture the nomination and embarrass the party anew if McCormick doesn’t run. If McCormick doesn't run, some party officials worry about the caliber of available alternatives at this relatively late stage.

Both Haley and Ramaswamy are trailing former President Donald Trump, according to the latest public polls. Team Stand for America's filing says the group received individual donations from wealthy donors ranging from $5,000 to $16,600. The joint fundraising committee finished raising over $4.3 million, while the Haley campaign itself brought in around $5.1 million, according to FEC records. Team Stand for America transferred about $1.8 million to the Haley campaign on March 31, according to the records. The well-known doctor poured $26.8 million of his own funds into his unsuccessful Senate campaign, according to OpenSecrets. Dolan, who put more than $10.5 million into his 2022 Senate bid, could face Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Sen. John Fetterman has been hospitalized for clinical depression since February 15. Casey is coordinating with Fetterman staff on constituent services issues and legislative priorities, according to recent reports, but doesn't call Fetterman directly so as not to disturb his ongoing recovery. Some of the others working hard to meet that internal standard include legislative assistant Madeleine Marr, a former aide to Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire. Conservative commentator Stephen L. Miller has been more blunt, accusing Fetterman's staff of unduly wielding power in his absence. "John Fetterman's chief of staff is not an elected senator," Miller wrote in an op-ed run by the Delaware Valley Journal.

John Fetterman, D-Pa., checked himself into a hospital to "receive treatment for clinical depression," his chief of staff said Thursday. "While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks," the statement said. "Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. "After examining John, the doctors at Walter Reed told us that John is getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself," Jentleson said.

"They especially hate strong women, and I think that's what you're seeing," said Fetterman, whose Democratic husband currently is Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor. Gisele Fetterman has become her husband's spokesperson since he suffered a stroke in May.
Adam Laxalt, the former Nevada attorney general who called the 2020 presidential election “rigged,” conceded his loss on Tuesday in a contest that tipped the balance of the Senate to Democrats. The concession comes days after multiple news outlets on Saturday, including NBC News, had declared his opponent, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, the winner. The race margin was razor-thin, with the latest tally showing Cortez Masto with 48.8 percent of the vote and Laxalt with 48 percent. In the end, Cortez Masto eked out the win by vastly outperforming Laxalt in mail-in ballots. Laxalt noted Cortez Masto and allies spent a "staggering" amount of money against him and he still came within half a percentage point of victory.
Sen. Rick Scott is challenging Mitch McConnell to become the top Senate Republican. Scott's challenge comes as former President Donald Trump and some Senate Republicans blame McConnell for a lackluster midterm election. As Politico broke the news of Scott's challenge, McConnell's allies lashed out. As the leader of Senate Republicans' campaign arm, Scott played a key role in shaping his party's strategy. Unlike McConnell, Scott did not want the GOP to aggressively intervene in contested primaries, which led to Trump-backed challengers like Dr. Mehmet Oz and Don Bolduc emerging in key races in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, respectively.

That weak showing spurred some conservatives to lash out at Trump, who had boosted losing candidates in numerous high-profile races. In the three-dozen elections labeled "Toss Up" by Cook Political Report, Trump endorsed only six Republicans — and five of them lost, according to CNBC's analysis. "I spoke with the President Trump this morning.
The post shows a map of Pennsylvania mostly covered in red with some counties in blue. Maps showing votes by county can create optical distortions, as rural counties tend to represent a high volume of land mass but do not have as many people as urban counties. For example, with over 99% of expected votes counted at the time of writing, Oz won Bradford County with 15,946 to Fetterman’s 6,563. By contrast, Fetterman won the more populous county, Philadelphia, with 382,848 to Oz’ 76,129 and Allegheny County with 352,940 to Oz’ 196,879 (here). Election maps showing votes by county can be misleading as rural counties represent a lot of land mass but do not have as many people as urban counties.
And that result could be dragged out even further if one or more of the House races is so close it triggers a recount. The outcome of those races will determine if Democrats retain the slimmest possible majority in the Senate, with the potential to actually increase the majority slightly. Currently, there are 48 Democratic senators and two independents who caucus with them, compared with 50 Republican senators who make up the remainder of the chamber. Democrats hold the majority there since Vice President Kamala Harris, a fellow Democrat, has the power to break ties as president of the Senate. John Fetterman defeated GOP contender Dr. Mehmet Oz for the Senate seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who's retiring.
Trump said he was sorry to Melania after a report that he's privately blaming her for faulty election advice. The New York Times reported that Trump is trying to cast the blame on others for his backing of Mehmet Oz. "I'd like to apologize to Melania and Sean Hannity for all of the Fake News and fictional stories," Trump said in a message on his Truth Social platform. In reality, Trump's endorsement of Oz was a major factor in the GOP primary. "I am not sure I have," Trump told GOP pollster Frank Luntz, who served as moderator of the event.
After the GOP underperformed, some Republicans are saying it's time to move on from Trump. Ron DeSantis handily won reelection in a state that has long been considered a swing state, defeating Democrat Charlie Crist with a roughly 20-point lead as of Wednesday. The drastic difference has already led Republicans to turn to DeSantis for 2024 hopes, a prospect that now seems all the more likely. But one of the biggest blows to the GOP, and Trump, came in Pennsylvania, where Lt. Gov. Some were already propping up DeSantis as the best choice for the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.
Rep.-elect Michael Lawler pushed for the Republican Party to move beyond Trump. "I would like to see the party move forward," Lawler told CNN. "I would like to see the party move forward," Lawler told CNN. As CNN's Kaitlan Collins pointed out to Lawler, some GOP figures are beginning to try to move the GOP away from Trump. "I strongly believe he should no longer be the face of the Republican Party," King said.
At huge rallies over the weekend, Trump read off a list of Republican candidates while honing a speech that sounded like his own 2024 presidential campaign stump speech. The message was clear: Trump was the leader of the Republican Party, and the party would have Trump to thank for its expected victories on Election Day. But as returns began to come in Tuesday evening, the Republican rout driven by Trump's chosen candidates never materialized. Ohio Republican Senate hopeful J.D. In North Carolina, Trump-backed Republican Senate candidate Ted Budd defeated Democrat Cheri Beasley, NBC projected.
