Significantly less clear, though, is how much the NRA can help Trump’s bid to win the White House once again. “Donald Trump is winning no new voters when he boasts about doing nothing about gun violence during his presidency. Period,” said Nick Suplina, a senior vice president at Everytown for Gun Safety, a group founded in the aftermath of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Suplina said Trump’s NRA appearance “shows that both the organization and the man are a bit desperate for each other. Among both gun safety advocates and gun rights groups, there’s little disagreement about the stakes in 2024.

JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr. have developed a close friendship and communicate "nearly daily," per The Times. Vance was once a critic of former President Trump but has become a champion of the ex-president. AdvertisementWhen Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio arrived in the Senate last year, he was already a well-known figure, boosted by his best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" and its subsequent film adaptation. For many GOP figures, Vance represents the future of the party, one that embraces the more isolationist "America First" worldview advanced by former President Donald Trump. He had publicly called Mr. Trump “loathsome” and an “idiot.” Once, he described him as “cultural heroin.”Then came an unexpected lifeline. “Enough with the lies being told about this guy,” Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s son, wrote on Twitter, assuring his followers that Mr. Vance had become a fan of his father. A month later, encouraged by his son, the elder Mr. Trump endorsed Mr. Vance. Today, Mr. Vance is one of the former president’s most reliable allies and a leader of a band of Republicans pushing Senate Republicans to the right. And his star has only continued to rise: Mr. Vance is on the list of Mr. Trump’s possible running mates, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

A New York appeals court on Monday paused for 10 days a massive civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump, and sharply reduced to $175 million the bond amount he would have to post to obtain a longer stay of that damage award. The ruling came the same day that New York Attorney General Letitia James would have been allowed to start seizing Trump's real estate and bank accounts to satisfy the $454 million-and-rising business fraud judgment in the case. Because of the size of the fraud judgment, the companies insisted that Trump show "cash reserves approaching $1 billion," according to his lawyers. But neither Trump nor the Trump Organization company has that amount of cash on hand, the filing said. The order also stayed Engoron's judge's ruling that had barred Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, from serving as officers and directors of New York companies for two years.

Seizing assets is a common legal option when someone doesn’t have the cash to pay a civil court penalty. In Trump’s case, potential targets could include such properties as his Trump Tower penthouse, aircraft, Wall Street office building or golf courses. Trump maintained on social media Friday that he has almost $500 million in cash but intends to use much of it on his presidential run. Engoron sided with the attorney general and ordered Trump to pay $355 million, plus interest that grows daily. Some co-defendants, including his sons and company executive vice presidents, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, were ordered to pay far smaller amounts.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A federal appeals court rejected a bid Monday from former coal executive Don Blankenship, who argued that Donald Trump Jr. defamed him by calling him a “felon.”The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, left in place a lower court's ruling in West Virginia against Blankenship, the former CEO of Massey Energy. He served a year in prison on a misdemeanor charge after he was found guilty of conspiring to violate safety standards at a West Virginia mine before an explosion in 2010 that killed 29 men. Blankenship sued the son of then-President Donald Trump after Donald Trump Jr. posted the comment in May 2018 on social media. The high court also previously turned away Blankenship’s appeal of his misdemeanor conviction.

"They're trying to deprive him of his cash, they want to bankrupt him, they want to hurt him so badly," Eric Trump told Fox News in an interview. Trump's son Eric, a co-defendant in the fraud case, accused Attorney General Letitia James on Sunday of trying to bankrupt his father with the judgment. Eric's complaint came days after news that James's office had registered the massive fraud judgment with the Westchester County, New York, county clerk's office. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump have run their father's company since he was elected president in 2016. Losers in New York civil cases must routinely post an appeal bond or be liable for the judgments against them as they appeal a verdict.

Donald Trump's social media platform Truth Social is set to go public next week. Truth Social, a platform developed by former president Donald Trump, has finally secured approval to merge with its shell company Digital World Acquisition Corp. After all, many DWAC investors don't appear to be trading on fundamentals, especially as Truth Social isn't reputed for high usage or revenue. Social Truth user KookyBar said after the merger, writing in a forum dedicated to DWAC. At a price of $40, the newly formed Truth Social entity would be worth more than $5 billion, with Trump owning a majority of the stock.

President Joe Biden's campaign raised $21.3 million in February – almost twice the $10.9 million Trump's campaign raised during the same period, according to filing with the Federal Election Commission. The Democratic National Committee also outraised its counterpart, with the Democratic group pulling in $16.6 million in February, compared to the $10.7 million the Republican National Committee raised in the same period. The amounts for both parties and candidates do not include money raised by outside groups or coordinated committees on behalf of each candidate. Big donors might be reluctant to contribute money to a Trump or GOP committee if they think it will go to pay Trump's private legal bills.
