The next wave of Disney theme park expansion in the U.S. is primed to be in California rather than Florida. The decision requires Disney to put a minimum of $1.9 billion in theme parks, lodging, entertainment, shopping and dining within 10 years. In Florida, Disney has had a more difficult time navigating the political landscape — leading to Disney World development tie-ups. It’s interesting to me that the equity market is cheering the idea that the Fed is going to be cutting rates. There tends to be a fine line between cutting rates and extending the economic cycle or cutting rates because the cycle is coming to an end (and the economy is softening). When the Fed is cutting rates, it’s cutting rates because a recession is about to happen, right? That’s why I say there’s a fine line between the Fed cutting to extend the cycle and the Fed cutting because a recession is about to happen. The Fed has been in this precarious space where they’re trying to avoid recession while lowering interest rates.

Equity described the vote as “a landslide victory,” with 953 cast members favoring unionization and 258 opposed. There are more than 21,000 Disneyland “cast member” employees, who are represented by more than a dozen unions. “Whatever the outcome, we respect that our cast members had the opportunity to have their voices heard,” the spokesperson said. On the other side of the country, Disney World character actors have been represented by Teamsters since the 1980s. Today, Equity estimates they represent around 800 cast members at Disney World.

Workers who bring Disneyland’s beloved characters to life — including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Cinderella — are looking to unionize. Labor organizers announced the campaign Tuesday, saying performers want better safety conditions and scheduling policies to help keep the magic alive for visitors. While most of the more than 35,000 workers at the Disneyland Resort already have labor unions, about 1,700 performers and character actors do not. “This isn't one of those situations where we're out making the employer the bad guy,” said Kate Shindle, president of Actors' Equity Association, which would represent the performers. Disneyland officials said in a statement that they believe cast members deserve the right to a confidential vote.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said in August during the third-quarter earnings conference call that the California-based company had seen "softer performance" at Walt Disney World, a part of its parks business, in Orlando. Although, Iger described the parks as "a tremendous business" and said Walt Disney World was still performing well above pre-pandemic levels. The company last month said it would nearly double its capital expenditure for its parks business to about $60 billion over the next 10 years. Walt Disney World will also introduce a package offer on Nov. 14 for families with discounted children's tickets for theme parks and dining plans, which can be used from March 3 through June 30 next year.

ANAHEIM, California, June 30 (Reuters) - For the first time ever, Marvel fans will be able to watch heroic super soldier Steve Rogers sing and dance on stage in Disneyland Resort's one-act musical theater production “Rogers: The Musical.”As part of Walt Disney's (DIS.N) 100th anniversary celebration, Disneyland opened the 30-minute musical on Friday at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure Park. “Rogers: The Musical” was introduced as a fictional Broadway musical in the first episode of the Disney+ miniseries “Hawkeye,” a show about the superhero Clint Barton, an archer who uses high-tech weaponry. What if we could turn 'Rogers: The Musical' into a real show?’" Dan Fields, executive creative director for Disney Live Entertainment, told Reuters. In addition to Steve Rogers, audiences can expect to see characters Peggy Carter, Nick Fury and some of the Avengers members as they go from Steve’s origin story into the future. “Rogers: The Musical” will perform multiple times per day, Tuesday through Saturday most weeks.
