Historically, women's healthcare has been impaired by challenges like bias and a lack of specialized providers. For years, healthcare systems weren't designed for women, and there are still gaps in research and treatments for women's health issues. AdvertisementWith this reality in mind, Joanna Strober cofounded Midi Health, a website designed to help people experiencing menopause and perimenopause access specialists. Interventions can range from lifestyle coaching to prescription medication, and Midi providers can refer patients to in-person treatments when needed. Midi Health is on its way toward doing that; the company closed a $60 million Series B round in April.

Fertility rates across OECD countries have halved since 1960, according to a new OECD report. He said the three countries are disproportionately impacted by a rapidly aging population, largely due to improved standards of living, which have a "very strong inverse relationship with fertility rates." These improved conditions have led to a greater opportunity cost for having children, Xu said. Shrinking workforceA decline in fertility rate puts pressure on the economy and the society at large as the working population shrinks. China's policy shiftsIn China, policymakers have been putting a big emphasis on "productivity growth," Xu told CNBC.

Its shares jumped in extended trading but given the "blowout earnings," Nancy Tengler of Laffer Tengler Investments said she expected to see a higher move. "We think there's another way to play this," she said, adding these are namely buying into "old economy companies," as well as data center names. One such "old economy" name is Walmart , according to her. They've embraced not only digital solutions, but robotics, generative AI and their ad business in cloud computing, obviously in their e-commerce business," she said. Prepare to be hounded with appointment reminders by phone. But now, medical practices are flooding patients with reminders of upcoming appointments — and warnings of cancellation penalties. The financial pressure for medical practices to keep patients from ghosting them is a major factor. But the notifications are getting worse because new software systems enabled medical providers to send automated messages to patients. The more reminders providers send, Kharraz said, the more patients tune them out.

How flying taxis could go mainstream

But some experts say if air taxis are going to go mainstream, an overlooked element will need to be scaled up: software. One part is the physical infrastructure, such as a vertiport — where air taxis can take off, land, and recharge. Because it’s a self-flying aircraft, there are unique software needs, Becky Tanner, the chief marketing officer at Wisk, told BI. Courtesy of VolocopterVolocopter also sees a “stand-alone business case” for VoloIQ as a third-party software, Seywald said. Getting air taxis in the skies could hinge on the customersSoftware is an essential part of the success of a mobility provider, Seywald told BI.

It is just the latest in a growing number of disruptions hitting the shipping industry as it battles the effects of climate change. A similar reduction in 2019 cost global shipping as much as $370 million, according to a study by RTI International. "We firmly believe that climate change poses a great threat to the shipping industry and the consumer overall. The impacts of climate change on ports alone, from damage to disruption, could cost the shipping industry up to $10 billion annually by 2050 and up to $25 billion per year by 2100, according to the RTI study, which was reviewed by the Environmental Defense Fund. Of all the transportation sectors, shipping is one of the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

Investors looking for artificial intelligence beneficiaries outside the megacap tech companies can search in a less buzzy part of markets — old economy stocks. "And that's our investing theme: Old economy companies that are embracing the digital revolution and the suppliers of the digital, you know, generative AI, cloud and cybersecurity tools," Tengler added. While megacap tech stocks have outperformed this year, helped by a surge of AI enthusiasm, the broader market has been left behind. But searching for more traditional companies embracing digitization could help investors identify less apparent beneficiaries of the AI boom, she said. "What we really like are the companies that are embracing digitization in their business, and improving margins," said Tengler, who holds oversized positions in the consumer discretionary, industrials and technology sectors of the market.

We are buying 225 shares of GE Healthcare (GEHC), at roughly $76.84 each, and 45 shares of Microsoft (MSFT), at roughly $334.26 apiece. The first position we are adding to is GE Healthcare Technologies . GE Healthcare fared much better than Dutch peer Phillips, which last week said its orders fell 8% in the second quarter. The difference in the two order rates suggests GE Healthcare is gaining market share. The medical-technology firm is seeing good momentum in its business, partly because many health-care providers are investing to improve patient care and productivity.

Brazil's central bank chief opposes creation of common currency
  + stars: | 2023-06-02 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
BRASILIA, June 2 (Reuters) - Brazil's central bank chief Roberto Campos Neto expressed his opposition on Friday to the creation of a common currency, stating that in the era of digitalization it is unnecessary to have a shared currency for its purported benefits. Campos Neto emphasized the potential power of digital solutions in providing effective alternatives. Specifically addressing the proposal of a common currency between Brazil and Argentina, which has also been previously mentioned by the government, he reiterated his opposition. "We should have a 'digital' minister, someone should be thinking about digital solutions," he added. He defended that Brazil's CBDB is much easier to regulate than other forms of CBDCs since tokenized bank deposits will be subject to the same regulations that govern traditional deposits.
