British financial technology firm Zilch on Tuesday reported its first-ever month of profit, marking a key milestone for the company as it looks toward an eventual initial public offering. Competitors Starling and Monzo, meanwhile, took more than three and four years to make their first profit, respectively. Others have managed to hit profitability faster. Zilch also said it topped £100 million ($130 million) in annual revenue run rate, doubling from the run rate it reported last year. Philip Belamant, Zilch's CEO and co-founder, told CNBC Tuesday that, despite the current high-interest rate environment, the firm was able to hit profitability by growing its business rather than cutting back like other fintechs have done.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said conspiracy charges against KuCoin and two executives should warn other crypto exchanges that they cannot serve U.S. customers without following U.S. laws. An indictment in Manhattan federal court said the company and its founders tried to conceal the existence of its U.S. customer base. KuCoin was also required to cease New York operations after falsely representing itself as a crypto exchange without registering as a securities and commodities broker-dealer, James said. “KuCoin grew to service over 30 million customers, despite its alleged failure to follow laws necessary to ensuring the security and stability of our world’s digital banking infrastructure,” McCormack said. Three companies doing business as KuCoin were incorporated in the Cayman Islands, the Republic of Seychelles and Singapore.

Private credit has become a hot investment on Wall Street as institutional investors seek out alternative investments with attractive dividends. "Investors might consider allocating a portion of their portfolio to private credit, depending on their individual risk tolerance, investment horizon and financial goals." Private credit funds have yields generally in the low-teens, although it can vary, he said. In a February report on U.S. life insurance ratings, Fitch Ratings said, "elevated private credit borrower leverage and a relative deterioration in private credit terms and conditions during more competitive lending environments are adding to pressures in the credit quality of private credit assets." The majority of the portfolio is in direct lending private credit, but a portion is also in publicly-traded securities of larger corporate issuers.

ZURICH, Nov 22 (Reuters) - UBS is one of the world’s safest large institutions, the Swiss bank's CEO said while speaking at a Swiss Risk Association event on Wednesday. "Even in the unlikely event of something going wrong at UBS, we have enough cushion before even speaking about a resolution of the bank and its very unlikely risk of a loss for the taxpayer," Sergio Ermotti said. Would UBS need to be rescued, Ermotti said a private buyer would continue to be preferable. The head of Switzerland's largest bank also advocated for certain regulatory improvements including strengthening the tools for early intervention by supervisors. DBS, which is also Southeast Asia's largest lender, has already forecast a record full-year profit for the current year. "Net profit (for 2024) to be maintained around record 2023 level," CEO Piyush Gupta said in results presentation materials. The bank's July-September net profit rose to S$2.63 billion ($1.94 billion) from S$2.24 billion a year earlier as total income grew to a record on higher interest margins and fee income. Besides higher global interest rates, Singapore banks have benefitted from strong inflows of wealth drawn in by the city-state's political stability. Smaller peer United Overseas Bank (UOBH.SI) reported in end-October a weaker-than-expected 1% drop in third-quarter net profit.

The Swiss National Bank and the Swiss Finance Ministry are part of the conversations with lenders, one source said. A representative for the finance ministry said that the issue of bank runs is part of an overall evaluation of the too-big-to-fail regulatory framework in Switzerland. Regulators worldwide have since been grappling with the risk of bank runs, which in the era of digital banking have accelerated in speed. Financial regulators will need to make sure that banks retain adequate financial buffers as advances in technology increase the risk of bank runs, Bank of England executive director for markets, Andrew Hauser, said on Friday at a conference in London. They risk penalizing Swiss banks if they were to be introduced only in Switzerland, one of the sources said.

Piyush Gupta, CEO of DBS Group (DBSM.SI) is often lauded as Asia’s top financier and has been tipped as a candidate to lead global rivals. Yet following repeated serious failures in its digital banking services, the Monetary Authority of Singapore has banned DBS from non-essential activities including M&A. It puts dividends at risk and will attract the eye of watchdogs overseas where the lender is busy expanding. On the back of record profits, Gupta earned $11.4 million last year, making him one of Asia’s highest remunerated bank CEOs. MAS will retain a multiplier of 1.8 times to DBS’ risk weighted assets for operational risk, an increase from a multiplier of 1.5 times MAS applied in February 2022.
