REUTERS/David Swanson/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLOS ANGELES, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Subaru (7270.T) will raise the wages of its U.S. plant workers in light of recent labor deals reached by the Detroit Three automakers and United Auto Workers (UAW), the Japanese automaker's CEO, Atsushi Osaki, told Reuters on Thursday. Non-union automakers that have raised wages for their U.S. plant workers after the UAW deals include Japan's Toyota (7203.T) and Honda (7267.T), and South Korea's Hyundai (005380.KS). UAW President Shawn Fain has said "UAW" stands for "U are welcome" in response to the rising wages at the non-union plants. The UAW said that 8,700 union members at Ford's Kentucky truck plant went on strike after the union said the No. [1/4]United Auto Workers (UAW) members strike outside of Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. October 11, 2023. Even with Wednesday's walkout, only about 22% of the 150,000 UAW workers at the Detroit Three automakers are on strike. The walkout in Kentucky will put stress on Ford UAW members beyond the sprawling factory near Louisville. Workers at a dozen other Ford plants that supply engines, transmissions and other components to the plant could be furloughed.

Oct 10 (Reuters) - The United Auto Workers (UAW) secured a "major breakthrough" in labor talks with the Detroit Three automakers as General Motors (GM.N) made some concessions by allowing workers at joint-venture battery plants to be covered by union contracts. Here is a look at the top talking points, and how negotiations have progressed three weeks after the strike began, according to UAW President Shawn Fain and the companies:Source: Fain's statement, company statementsReporting by Niket Nishant and Abhinav Parmar in Bengaluru; Editing by Shinjini Ganguli and Sriraj KalluvilaOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

[1/2]Striking United Auto Workers (UAW) union workers picket outside the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, U.S., September 23, 2023. Workers went on strike on Sept. 15 at one plant each from GM, Ford and Stellantis. The union escalated on Sept. 22, when workers walked off the job at GM and Stellantis distribution facilities in 20 states nationwide. UAW workers also are threatening to walk off the job at heavy truck maker Mack Trucks on Sunday, and at three Detroit casinos. A UAW strike has shut down a plant that builds axles for Mercedes-Benz's Alabama vehicle factory.

“I don’t know why Jim Farley is lying about the state of negotiations," Fain said in a statement responding to the Ford CEO. The UAW wants those workers represented by the union and paid the highest-tier wages. Workers went on strike on Sept. 15 at one plant each from GM, Ford and Stellantis. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDETROIT, Sept 15 (Reuters) - The United Auto Workers union launched simultaneous strikes at three Detroit Three factories early on Friday, kicking off the most ambitious U.S. industrial labor action in decades. Fain's decision to go with targeted walkouts could limit the cost to the union of strike pay. UAW President Fain has taken an unorthodox approach to the negotiations, bargaining with all three Detroit automakers simultaneously. But the Detroit automakers build some of the U.S. market's best-selling vehicles, such as the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks and Jeep SUVs.

REUTERS/Athit Perawongmetha Acquire Licensing RightsAug 29 (Reuters) - Canadian union Unifor on Tuesday announced Ford Motor (F.N) as its potential target for negotiations amid contract talks with the Detroit Three automakers. Unifor President Lana Payne noted that Ford's Windsor, Ontario engine plant, which her union represents, builds engine for some of the company's most profitable trucks. The UAW, which represents about 150,000 workers at the Detroit Three's U.S. factories, has not yet chosen one company to lead contract talks. UAW President Shawn Fain has said all the three companies - Ford, General Motors (GM.N) and Stellantis NV - need to conclude new contracts by a Sept. 14 deadline. Unifor, which represents 18,000 members at Ford, GM and Stellantis in Canada, had opened formal negotiations with the three companies on Aug. 10 in Toronto.
