Luckily, Goldman hadn't filled the role, so I started working for them in November 2018. Working at Goldman Sachs would always be limitingI liked working as a trader at Goldman, but it wasn't fulfilling. I slowly realized that working for Goldman or any company, the end goal is limited to possibly being a partner. At the same time all this was happening, Luna Crypto, followed by the crypto market, crashed. It's holding on to its weekly gain of 20%, and is on pace for its best week in more than a year. Earlier this week surged more than 20% over two days, as expectations of an SEC approval of ether ETF applications changed abruptly. By contrast, in the weeks leading up to approvals for bitcoin ETFs, the SEC was reported to be engaging actively with fund issuers. Coinbase , which may be a beneficiary of ether ETFs, was more than 1% in premarket trading, while Robinhood nearly 1%. Cryptocurrency prices, including ether's, may also be tempered by the Thursday afternoon stock market sell-off.

Nvidia has been the biggest story of Wall Street's rally to record highs, but the options market appears to be underestimating the impact of its earnings report Wednesday, according to Goldman Sachs. "NVDA options suggest investors expect this earnings report to be unusually important; NVDA options imply a +/-11.9% earnings-day move vs. its 4-quarter historical earnings-day move of +/-10.8%. The importance of this earnings report is easy to see given NVDA options volume has been 36% of all single stock options volumes over the past three months," the note said. The S & P 500 is a market cap-weighted index, meaning that Nvidia has taken on extra importance over the past two years. The options market has underpriced S & P 500 moves following the previous four Nvidia reports as well, according to Goldman.

WASHINGTON — The first Trump presidency shattered conservative economic ideology on the Republican Party's approach to free markets and tariffs. Source: AmericanCompass.org To be clear, this is not yet the dominant strain of Republican economic thinking in Washington. Cass argues that Republican economic policy has been focused on the wrong goals: lowering prices and increasing consumption. "It was absolutely black letter economic doctrine that the point of economic policy was to consume as much as possible. watch now"Spinning assets in circles creates nothing of value, and in fact creates the opposite of value," Cass said.

Wall Street has great expectations for Nvidia 's earnings on Wednesday, according to Evercore ISI. Yet, how the artificial intelligence darling's stock will react is less clear — and it is likely to have big implications for the entire stock market, the firm said. The share price reaction will likely cause a ripple effect, he said. Over the past year, Nvidia's stock has had an "almost unimaginably close" day-to-day correlation to the S & P 500 of 0.95, he pointed out. which helped catalyze 2023's S & P 500 Fall Fall … the one certain thing is that NVDA's share price reaction, while difficult to gauge, will have consequences for the S & P 500 as a whole," Emanuel said.

I can’t watch a basketball game on TV without seeing ads urging me to place a bet on one app or another. I can’t walk down the street in New York City without seeing ads about the latest lottery jackpot. And when I sit at my desk in the office, I spend hours studying another type of betting — trading in financial markets, where you can place wagers on companies, bonds, commodities and derivatives of all descriptions. Yet the most consequential betting of all — wagers on elections in the United States — may soon be shut down by regulators. And the commission’s proposed new rule would give it the power to block trading on a broad range of other subjects.

I started working in a towering office building in London, and I felt completely out of my depth. In 2016, I was about to move into an area I didn't want to work in when JPMorgan headhunted me. "The rise of retail options trading is another secular trend we're excited to build on with more platforms coming online for index options trading later this year, giving retail investors expanded access to our products," Howson said on an earnings call to analysts this month. Sam Bankman-Fried, co-founder of FTX Cryptocurrency Derivatives Exchange, arrives at court in New York, US, on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023. Almost all customers of collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX will get their money back — and more, according to a court filing. FTX's high-profile founder Sam Bankman-Fried was convicted of seven criminal counts in early November, including charges related to stealing billions of dollars from FTX's customers. FTX had to find other ways to raise money because it has large sum of cryptocurrency missing from the exchange. Instead, the Debtors have had to look to other sources of recoverable value to repay creditors," FTX said in a press release on Wednesday.

New York CNN —In the spring of 2021, you might have heard about a small investment firm with an odd name, Archegos, that imploded practically overnight and left big Wall Street banks sweating over billions of dollars in losses. Put simply, prosecutors say Hwang had used financial instruments called “total return swaps” to gain exposure to the stocks without actually owning them. Over the course of a year, prosecutors say, Hwang grew his $1.5 billion portfolio into a $35 billion portfolio. Why the case mattersWhite-collar crime on Wall Street may seem like a distant problem for most Americans, and that may be true. And sometimes, as in the financial crisis of 2008, it was a bit of Wall Street tinkering in derivatives contracts that blew up in banks’ faces and collapsed the housing market.

French bank Societe Generale reported a smaller-than-expected 22% slide in first-quarter net income on Friday, as profits on equity derivative sales offset more weakness at its retail bank and in fixed-income trading. France's third-biggest listed lender, whose CEO Slawomir Krupa is seeking to end several years of lackluster performance and trim costs, said group net income over the first three months of the year was 680 million euros ($729.30 million). Sales slipped 0.4% to 6.65 billion euros, above the 6.46 billion-euro analyst average estimate. SocGen's investment banking division saw its earnings jump 26.4% to 690 million euros, beating forecasts, while revenues weakened 5.1% to 2.62 billion euros for the quarter. Equity derivatives sales, an area where SocGen has historically been strong, did well, the bank said, as did corporate financing services and its advisory business.

A former Societe Generale trader who was fired for unauthorized risky bets has lambasted the French bank for making him a "scapegoat" and failing to take its share of responsibility for missing the trades. A SocGen spokesperson declined to comment on the post, but provided a statement on the pair's dismissal. Kataria said the trades were auto-booked and a "daily email was sent to the entire group mentioning the trades have been reconciled." "It's very easy for other people to say that we were not aware of the trades done by me," he wrote. "Trading Industry is so big but there are no rules or regulations which fight for trader justice," he said.
