Rojas had two hits and Brandon Marsh hit a solo home run for the Phillies (88-69). Phillies starter Aaron Nola pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and one run with eight strikeouts and no walks. The Phillies went hitless through the first five innings though Bryce Harper walked twice. Keller remained in the game and Marsh hit the next pitch over the fence in right-center for a 1-0 lead, snapping an 0-for-17 skid.

September 14 - The Pittsburgh Pirates will go for a series win while the visiting Washington Nationals look for a series split Thursday when the teams conclude a four-game set. Washington right-hander Josiah Gray (7-11, 4.13 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite Pittsburgh right-hander Mitch Keller (11-9, 4.23). Keller, who will be making his 100th big-league appearance, has had an uneven second half for the Pirates (68-78). "I'm trying to build off last year's innings," Keller said. Against the Nationals, Keller is 0-1 with a 10.57 ERA in two career starts, both last year.

September 9 - The Atlanta Braves seem to be in taking-care-of-business mode with the Pittsburgh Pirates in town. The Braves (92-48) opened a three-game series against the Pirates with an 8-2 win Friday, flexing their considerable muscle on offense while benefiting from strong pitching. After that, the Braves reeled off seven straight series wins before dropping two of three games to the Cardinals. The Braves, however, set the tone for this set by carving up the Pirates ace Mitch Keller on Friday. Oviedo has faced the Braves once, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief on July 4, 2022, while pitching for St. Louis.

August 16 - It took 16 innings, but the Pittsburgh Pirates finally got rewarded for their patience against the New York Mets. The Pirates and Mets will each be looking to earn a series win Wednesday afternoon when Pittsburgh visits New York in the finale of a three-game set. Johan Oviedo (6-12, 4.42 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Pirates against the Mets' Tylor Megill (6-6, 5.64) in a battle of right-handers. The Pirates earned a 7-4 win on Tuesday, when pinch hitter Jack Suwinski drew a tiebreaking, bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning. Megill also lost a start on Friday after surrendering six runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings as the Mets fell 7-0 to the visiting Atlanta Braves.

August 6 - The Milwaukee Brewers, who are trying to keep hold of first place in the National League Central, will go for a series win Sunday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Saturday was much different, with the Brewers having to dig deep to win 3-2 in 10 innings. "You don't come through every opportunity, but when you do, that's what matters." The Pirates have gone 2-0-1 in their past three series but have lost three of their past four games. Oviedo is 1-2 with a 6.16 ERA in five career games (two starts) against the Brewers.

The third baseman for the Altoona Curve – the Pittsburgh Pirates’ AAA affiliate – was drafted by the Pirates in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB draft but never played a big league game. Understandably, Maggi was pumped after spending his entire 13-year career in the minor leagues and celebrated alongside his teammates upon receiving the news. There were a lot of ups and downs, a lot of different people, injuries, a lot of stuff happens. So, being here, it feels right.”Maggi had most recently been playing with the Altoona Curve, the Pittsburgh Pirates' AAA affiliate.
