A bipartisan group of political operatives — spanning the ideological spectrum from former members of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus to a Democrat who challenged Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia — has started a political action committee aimed at “stopping MAGA” and eradicating what the operatives call an authoritarian streak among some Republican lawmakers. The group, Mission Democracy PAC, will challenge far-right members of Congress in their often deep-red home districts, running ads and messaging campaigns that accuse the politicians of holding antidemocratic and extreme positions. Mission Democracy PAC begins with just over $500,000 in the bank, but the advisers say they hope to raise $18 million for the coming election cycle, and plan to spend all of it within the targeted congressional districts. Who’s behind the group? The leaders are former Representative Denver Riggleman of Virginia, who once belonged to the Freedom Caucus but has since left the Republican Party and spoke out against conspiracy theories from the House floor; Olivia Troye, a former official in Donald J. Trump’s administration who has been critical of him; and Marcus Flowers, an Army veteran and Democrat who lost heavily to Ms. Greene last year.
Former GOP House members are slamming Justice Clarence Thomas over his cozy relationship with a billionaire. One of Thomas' fellow conservatives says he "should not be allowed anywhere near a judicial decision." Because Justice Thomas knew it was wrong to accept these secret gifts." Former GOP Virginia House member Denver Riggleman reacted to ProPublica's report on Twitter, saying "Our country is poisoned from within. Another former Republican House member Adam Kinzinger tweeted "Regardless of your politics, this cannot be acceptable."
Tweets with slurs, antisemitic, and racist content have skyrocketed since Elon Musk's takeover. Federal officials have warned that Twitter posts will translate to real-world acts of violence. Musk claims the total number of impressions on tweets containing hate speech are down. The New York Times reported antisemitic posts referring to Jews or Judaism soared more than 61 percent in the first two weeks while accounts supporting ISIS came roaring back. Researchers have consistently found that online rhetoric feeds real-world behavior, with hate speech online being linked to increases in violence toward minorities, "including mass shootings, lynchings, and ethnic cleansing," according to the nonpartisan think tank Council for Foreign Relations.
CNN Reliable Sources has independently obtained the same messages that McLaughlin sent to Meadows. Through a spokesperson, McLaughlin declined to comment. The messages underscore the intimate relationship that Hannity, his team, and the right-wing media writ large shared with the Trump White House. “Jim Jordon [sic] will gladly coordinate with the House team,” Meadows texted McLaughlin. And it’s no secret Hannity himself worked as a top informal adviser to Trump.
The committee had been planning to hold another hearing on Wednesday but postponed it due to the hurricane approaching Florida. “Nothing provided by the Jan. 6 committee can be considered credible, or unedited or not manipulated," Stone told NBC News Tuesday. The committee has also obtained a trove of Secret Service documents from the period around the Jan. 6 attack. "I think it’s certainly something that will be explored," at the hearing, said the committee member who requested anonymity. “We all swore the same oath to the Constitution,” Cheney told NBC News in a statement, responding to the GOP criticism she’s faced.
Denver Riggleman said his mother criticized him via text after he spoke out against Trump and QAnon. I'm sorry you were ever elected," she reportedly wrote to him. Riggleman, an ex-advisor to the Jan. 6 committee, detailed the exchange in his new book, "The Breach." I love you so, but cannot stand by and listen to your elitist attitude and being praised by elitist journalist and democrats," Riggleman's mother wrote in the texts, according to the book. Riggleman wrote that his mother was religious and also firmly in the Republican camp.
Republican Denver Riggleman says Reps. Louie Gohmert and Paul Gosar are in their own little worlds. They harbor "wild, dramatic fantasies about Democrats, the media and big tech," Riggleman says. "I came to believe Gosar and Gohmert may have had serious cognitive issues," Riggleman writes of his former colleagues in his new book, "The Breach: The untold story of the investigation into January 6th." Reps. Gohmert and Gosar did not respond to requests for comment about Riggleman's remarks. Republican Reps. Perry and Biggs have both been subpoenaed by the select committee investigating the deadly siege at the US Capitol.
A top member of the Oath Keepers texted Andrew Giuliani about election issues, per NBC News. Ex-GOP Rep. Denver Riggleman told NBC News it's "so important" for the public to know about such links. Since the message was sent to a switchboard line at the White House, it was undeliverable. Andrew Giuliani told NBC News that he last communicated with SoRelle on November 20, 2020. "Until you mentioned her, until I looked it up, it didn't really ring a bell," Giuliani told the news organization.
A high-ranking member of the far-right Oath Keepers organization who has been charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol exchanged messages in November 2020 with former Trump White House aide Andrew Giuliani about election issues. That text message went to a White House switchboard line, so it could not be delivered. Andrew Giuliani told NBC News that the last contact with SoRelle on his phone was on Nov. 10, 2020. “None of that was like ‘Hey, we should go storm the Capitol,’” SoRelle told NBC News. The panel will hold its next public hearing on Wednesday, the second day of jury selection in the Oath Keeper's trial.
Denver Riggleman said texts from Mark Meadows showed a "roadmap" to overturning the election. Meadows was receiving texts about the alternate electors plot just days after the election. He said Meadows' texts showed a "roadmap" for how allies of former President Donald Trump were trying to overturn the election. Host Bill Whitaker asked Riggleman to confirm his belief that Meadows' texts "provide irrefutable, time-stamped proof of a comprehensive plot at all levels of government to overturn the election." Insider previously compiled a list of all the texts Meadows had received while the January 6 insurrection was unfolding.

The House Jan. 6 committee is "aware of" the call between the White House switchboard and a rioter during the attack on the Capitol, panel member Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said Sunday on NBC News' "Meet the Press." “You know, I can’t say anything specific about that particular call, but we are aware of it,” Raskin said. “And we are aware of lots of contacts between the people in the White House and different people that were involved obviously in the coup attempt and the insurrection.”The call is “one of thousands of details that obviously the committee is aware of," he said. “And our job is to put everything into a comprehensive portrait and narrative timeline of what took place." Riggleman has said that he only knows about "one end" of the call and not the "White House end."
