New Delhi CNN —Indian voters are battling sweltering conditions to take part in the world’s biggest election as a severe heat wave hits parts of the country and authorities forecast a hotter-than-normal summer for the South Asian nation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a heat wave will affect parts of south and east India until the end of the week, including four states that are voting on Friday. Climate politicsIndia, the world’s most populous nation with 1.4 billion people, often experiences heat waves during the summer months of May and June. But in recent years, they have arrived earlier and become more prolonged, with scientists linking some of these longer and more intense heat waves to the climate crisis. Last year successive heat waves hit India again, closing schools, damaging crops and putting pressure on energy supplies.

The objections focused on the difficulty of achieving elite status and new restrictions on entering airport lounges. In simplifying the path to status, Delta sharply raised spending requirements for each SkyMiles level. The September proposal created a backlash among Delta customers on social media, with some threatening to switch to other airlines. JetBlue and Alaska Airlines tried to poach Delta's best customers by offering to match elite status for anyone leaving the Delta loyalty program. CNN —Delta Air Lines is easing off some recent changes to its SkyMiles loyalty program that sparked criticism from frequent flyers. Fundamentally, Wednesday’s announcement keeps in place a significant overhaul announced just last month that transitioned the loyalty program from miles-based to spending-based. But the airline will make it easier for frequent flyers to reach certain rewards thresholds than the original changes. Last month, Delta CEO Ed Bastian pledged modifications to the program, but downplayed customer frustrations. Bastian said Delta gained so many elite status holders that demand for premium services, including lounge access at airports, overwhelmed the company.

☆ PS opening private, luxury terminal at ATL airport in September

A new private, luxury terminal for people taking commercial flights is scheduled to open on September 6 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to operator PS in a news release. It’s the second one under the PS umbrella, with a similar private terminal having been open at LAX in Los Angeles since 2017. What a PS terminal offersThe Salon allows customers at LAX to wait for their commercial flights in high style. Like the LAX terminal, the ATL terminal will have its own private access road and parking. PS LAXReservations are already being accepted for PS Atlanta.
