Port-au-Prince, Haiti CNN —A container carrying essential items for newborn babies and their mothers – including resuscitators and other critical supplies – was looted in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, aid agency UNICEF said in a statement, as gang violence and a humanitarian crisis worsen in the Haitian capital. In addition to maternity and neonatal supplies, the looted container also held “early childhood development and education and water equipment,” UNICEF said. The theft of the supplies “occurs at a critical moment when children need them the most,” said UNICEF representative Bruno Maes in Haiti. Three out of four women and children in the Port-au-Prince area do not have access to basic public health and nutrition, according to UNICEF. Meanwhile, the first flights of a UN air bridge between Haiti and the neighboring Dominican Republic have been completed, UN sources told CNN.

He learned from neighbors and others who dared venture into gang territory that Jude-Anne Hospital had been looted and cleared of anything of value. It was the second hospital he has had to close. “They took everything — the operating rooms, the X-rays, everything from the labs and the pharmacies,” Dr. LaRoche said. As politicians around the region scramble to hash out a diplomatic solution to a political crisis that has the prime minister, Ariel Henry, stranded in Puerto Rico and gangs attacking police stations, a humanitarian disaster is quickly escalating. The food supply is threatened, and access to water and health care have been severely curtailed.

As you know gas, from an emissions standpoint, is a step down compared to coal, so it's important we accelerate that," Ramakgopa said. Ramakgopa said in June that South Africa expects more than 5.5 GW of new renewable energy projects to come online by 2026. South Africa is also seeking to extend to life of its 40-year-old 1.94 GW Koeberg nuclear plant by 20 years beyond its scheduled shutdown next year.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix co-chief executive, has said that the company and other streaming platforms, studios and networks were ‘super committed’ to reaching a deal with striking Hollywood actors. Photo: Chris Delmas/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesThe stars aligned for Netflix in its latest quarter, but making sequels to this hit will be a challenge. The streaming giant said Wednesday that it added about 8.8 million net new paid subscribers during the third quarter. That is the highest number added in a single quarter since early 2020, when interest in TV streaming exploded during the pandemic lockdowns. It was also 45% higher than what Wall Street had expected for subscriber additions.

Leonardo Munoz/AFP via Getty ImagesWhatever the outcome of this battle, though, there are signs Hollywood overall is losing the war. Now with streaming gains slowing, the revenues from those new subscribers aren’t fully offsetting what’s being lost. That’s bad for the creative class.”So, were there “winners” and “losers” in the writers’ strike? To the extent the strike left their fall TV lineups looking relatively bare, this was a loss for them and gift to the streaming services.

[1/3] People displaced by gang war violence in Cite Soleil walk on the streets of Delmas neighborhood after leaving Hugo Chaves square in Port-au-Prince, Haiti November 19, 2022. REUTERS/Ralph Tedy ErolOTTAWA, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Canada delivered armored vehicles to Haiti on Wednesday to help combat criminal gangs as the Caribbean nation faces a humanitarian crisis, the Canadian foreign ministry said. Haitian gangs have seized control of much of the country since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise, leading to routine gun battles with police. Hundreds died in turf battles last year, and in September, Haitian gangs blocked a fuel terminal for nearly six weeks, halting most economic activity. Canada and the United States provided tactical and armored vehicles and other supplies in October after Haiti urged the international community to send in a "specialized armed force."
