Nvidia is still inexpensive even as it rose to a new record on Wednesday because of the rapid pace of its earnings growth, according to EMG Capital's Eric Jackson. Last month, Nvidia topped Wall Street expectations for the fiscal first quarter and issued strong guidance for the current quarter. While Nvidia is a leader for Jackson, there's also another stock in the AI space that's on his radar. Last week, Dell shares tumbled 18% after the company reported a decline in margins and missed expectations with its AI server backlog. But Jackson believes its incremental AI server revenues of $1.7 billion from its previous quarter has positioned the company to show better margins as the year goes on.

Jim Cramer explains why Dell is a buy on the dip
  + stars: | 2024-06-03 | by ( Julie Coleman | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
After shares of Dell took a hit last week and continued to sink during Monday's session, CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors why he thinks the stock is a good buy at its current price level. "The main problem is that Dell failed to live up to irrationally high expectations, the expectations that fueled the stock's stunning rally this year," he said. Even if Dell's AI offerings aren't driving earnings just yet, Cramer said he was still impressed with sales momentum. In the earnings release, Dell said its AI server shipments doubled since the previous quarter and its backlog grew more than 30%. Cramer called Dell's recent decline a "healthy pullback for a stock that had gotten overheated."

Shares of Dell Technologies fell more than 16% Friday after investors were discouraged by the company's lower-than-expected artificial intelligence server backlog and an estimated decline in margins. Bernstein analysts said the "principle disappointment" in Dell's results was that operating margins for its Infrastructure Solutions Group compressed year over year. Additionally, operating profits were flat compared with the same period last year, even though the company brought in around $1.7 billion in incremental AI server revenues. The analysts said this resurfaced concerns that Dell's AI servers are being sold at "near-zero margins." Bank of America analysts said Dell reported a strong quarter, and they reiterated their buy rating on the stock.

Dell is seeing accelerating momentum, especially in winning business to build AI servers, unlocking a new bull case for the stock, Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring wrote in a note on Wednesday. "All-in, we are hearing about more AI server momentum at Dell than at any other OEM," Woodring wrote, saying that he expected about $10 billion of AI server revenue in the company's fiscal 2025 — ending next February. Most AI servers are built around Nvidia's chips which have become prized in the technology industry because they are used to build and deploy advanced AI models from companies like Google , OpenAI and Meta . Dell sells servers using the newest Nvidia AI chips, including its H100 GPU and the latest Blackwell-generation chips. But the PC industry is on course to grow again and is outperforming lowered expectations, Woodring wrote, which will benefit Dell.

A logo outside the Banco Sabadell SA offices at the Banc Sabadell Tower in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Spanish bank BBVA caught markets by surprise on Thursday after it announced a rare hostile takeover bid for domestic rival Banco Sabadell, with one investment firm describing the situation as "very strange." The move comes shortly after a separate 12 billion euro ($12.87 billion) takeover offer from BBVA to Sabadell's board was rejected earlier in the week. BBVA said its takeover offer has the same financial terms as the merger offered to Sabadell's board. Shares of BBVA fell 6% at around midday London time on Thursday, while Sabadell's stock price rose more than 3%.

The headquarters of the Spanish bank BBVA are seen in Madrid, Spain. Spanish bank BBVA on Thursday presented a 12.23 billion euro ($13.11 billion) takeover bid for rival Sabadell directly to shareholders, even though Sabadell's board this week already rejected the proposal on the same terms. BBVA's decision follows Sabadell's board on Monday saying the unsolicited bid significantly undervalued the bank's potential and growth prospects. BBVA, Spain's second-biggest bank by market value after Santander, offered an exchange ratio of 1 newly issued BBVA share for every 4.83 Sabadell shares, a premium of 30% over April 29 closing prices. Sabadell's board rejected a merger proposal by larger rival BBVA for a 12 billion euro ($12.93 billion) all-share merger, the Spanish lender said on Monday. Last week, BBVA had offered an exchange ratio of one newly issued BBVA share for every 4.83 Sabadell shares, a premium of 30% over April 29 closing prices. Since the indicative offer was announced by BBVA, Sabadell have risen 8.8% while shares in BBVA have fallen 9.7%. Taking into account Monday's closing share price, the premium would just be equivalent to 7.8%, valuing Sabadell at around 11 billion euros. The combined entity would also overtake Caixabank as the biggest domestic lender in Spain with over 625 billion euros in assets in the country, compared with Caixabank's just over 574 billion euros.
