A majority of respondents — 61% — in the latest CNBC Delivering Alpha Stock Survey believe the broader market has run too far, too fast heading into the second quarter and a pullback is near. The S & P 500 is up more than 9% in the first quarter, which would be its best start to a year since 2019. When it comes to investing domestically 26% said the Nasdaq 100 was the best place to be compared to 13% from the S & P 500. That stock is up 245% in a year and 120% in six months far outpacing every other stock in the S & P 500 except for Super Micro Computer . The rest think we're more likely to be in the 5%-to-10% range for an annual return for the S & P in the next decade.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday celebrated results from CNBC's most recent Delivering Alpha Stock Survey, in which a majority of investors predicted the market had run too high and that a pullback is on the horizon. He told investors to welcome a decline and to raise some cash to buy quality stocks at lower prices. "I think people are right to expect a pullback here," Cramer said. While it's wise to raise some cash to prepare for a pullback, Cramer also suggested riding out some of the turbulence. When investors are always trying to avoid the next pullback, they may end up missing the next rally, he said.

In an interview with CNBC, CEO Guillaume Cerutti said Christie's sold a painting in January in a private sale with a price "in excess of $100 million," though the auction house declined to provide details. In a private sale, a work is brought for a possible sale to an auction house, which reaches out to its top clients and brokers a deal. Private sales have surged since the Covid-19 pandemic, as more and more collectors prefer discreet transactions outside the public eye.

Trian officially nominated Peltz and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo as directors for consideration at the company's upcoming annual meeting. Trian oversees about $3 billion worth of Disney stock. The board oversight is awful," the activist investor told Jim, who agrees. Peltz has been pushing Disney board representation since the beginning of 2023 .

Billionaire Citadel CEO Ken Griffin is "actively contemplating" financially supporting former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley in the Republican primary for president. Yes or no," Griffin said in an interview Tuesday with Bloomberg TV, when asked whether he planned to financially support Haley. Griffin is the latest of several wealthy, Republican donors who have said in recent days that they plan to support Haley over Trump and the rest of the primary field. But on Monday he told CNBC that following Scott's announcement, he planned to support Haley exclusively from now on. Until Sunday, Sabin had been fundraising for Scott's primary effort.

Have a concentrated portfolioHaving a concentrated portfolio means investing in a relatively small number of stocks as opposed to a larger number for the sake of diversity. Buy quality stocksSucceeding with a concentrated portfolio relies on one thing: buying quality stocks. A quality stock is a company that's able to consistently post profits and returns on capital. Apple and Alphabet would be considered consensus quality stocks, and Munger is well known for his fondness of shares of Coca-Cola, another stock traditionally classified as quality. Buy stocks with good management teamsOne element of a company that makes it "quality" is its management team.

Bill Ackman, Pershing Square Capital Management CEO, speaking at the Delivering Alpha conference in NYC on Sept. 28th, 2023. Pershing Square's Bill Ackman revealed Monday he covered his bet against long-term Treasurys, believing that investors may increasingly buy bonds as a safe haven because of growing geopolitical risks, the latest of which being the Israel-Hamas war. The 30-year Treasury yield has risen more than 80 basis points since the end of August, making Ackman's bet profitable. Bond prices move inversely to yields, so Ackman's bet against bonds was, in effect, a gamble on higher rates. The 30-year Treasury yield fell 6 basis points to 5.01% on Monday after Ackman's comments.

Leon Cooperman at the 2019 Delivering Alpha conference in New York on Sept. 19, 2019. Billionaire investor Leon Cooperman said he remains a bear with little interest in the broader stock market, partly because it's underestimating the risk of a fiscal crisis. "I'm of the view that we borrow from the future with very profligate fiscal policy," Cooperman said at CNBC's Financial Advisor Summit. "Ultimately, we will have a crisis in public sector finance, and the market is not discounting a crisis. Given his long-term pessimism, Cooperman isn't buying the stock market benchmarks.

Some of the market's biggest stock market investors echoed this view. Ackman said on Monday morning he didn't expect another rate hike. "If you just listen to their words, you know, you have to be pretty fearful there's going to be another rate hike. "Those numbers need to be supportive," Rieder had said of inflation data and jobs data including the JOLTS report in an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of DA. Ackman, even betting against another rate hike, has a view of inflation that sees it being persistently higher and placing more pressure on yields.

Bill Ackman says he doesn't short stocks anymore. The hedge fund manager famously feuded with investing legend Carl Icahn over Ackman's short position on Herbalife over a decade ago. At the conference, Ackman talked about two companies he's placing massive bets on right now: Universal Music (UNGVY) and Alphabet (GOOG). Ackman said his portfolio has a 22-25% weight on Universal Music, and a 16-17% weight on Alphabet, meaning he's betting 38-42% of his fund on the two firms. For Universal Music it's streaming.

Exchange-traded funds like the Vanguard Short-Term Treasury ETF (VGSH) and the SPDR Portfolio Short Term Treasury ETF (SPTS) also offer exposure. One way to gain exposure to the assets is through funds like the Schwab 5-10 Year Corporate Bond ETF (SCHI) or the iShares Euro Investment Grade Corporate Bond Index Fund (IE). Finally, Rieder said he likes corporate paper, which are essentially short-term bonds issued by corporations. I know what my return is going to be a year ahead — it's going to be 6.5% for single-A issuers. Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of private investing firm Altimeter Capital, says the U.S. is increasingly becoming a country of haves and have-nots. "I think in this country, everybody knows the wealth gap is at historic levels," Gerstner said last week at CNBC's Delivering Alpha investor summit. To close the gap, Gerstner says, American policymakers must harness the power of what investing sages have called the 8th wonder of the world. "The most powerful thing we have in the world to shrink the wealth gap is compounding," Gerstner said. "I started building this little snowball at the top of a very long hill.

"There is a subset that simply cannot do that," she said of paying down credit card debt going forward as rates rise. "In those tails and subsets I think you're going to have really unusual delinquencies, and just horrible recovery rates." You're going to see defaults increase." Delaney also emphasized being defensive, and said he likes corporate bonds, but those with floating rates, meaning they move with the market rate. The iShares 10-20 Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLH) is one way to gain exposure to long-term government bonds.
