CNN —Marie-Louise Eta made history on Sunday after becoming the first woman to take charge of a men’s team in a Bundesliga fixture. The 32-year-old was named Union Berlin’s assistant coach earlier in the season but filled in for usual head coach Nenad Bjelica, who is currently serving a three-game ban. Eta’s first match in charge ended with a 1-0 victory against Darmstadt, with Benedict Hollerbach’s first-half strike the difference between the two sides. According to Bundesliga.com, Eta retired at just 26 before stepping into coaching – she took charge of Germany’s youth teams before joining Union Berlin in 2023. Bjelica will be missing for Union Berlin’s next two matches against RB Leipzig and Mainz.

Washington CNN —Security researchers warned Apple as early as 2019 about vulnerabilities in its AirDrop wireless sharing function that Chinese authorities claim they recently used to track down users of the feature, the researchers told CNN, in a case that experts say has sweeping implications for global privacy. AirDrop lets Apple users who are near each other share files using a proprietary mix of Bluetooth and other wireless connectivity without having to connect to the internet. A Chinese tech firm, Beijing-based Wangshendongjian Technology, was able to compromise AirDrop to identify users on the Beijing subway accused of sharing “inappropriate information,” judicial authorities in Beijing said this week. The Chinese tech firm, Wangshendongjian Technology, that claimed to have exploited AirDrop appeared to have used some of the same techniques first identified by the Darmstadt researchers in 2019, said Alexander Heinrich, one of the German researchers. “Now that Chinese security agencies are exploiting this vulnerability, it’s a tough political problem for Apple.”

"It is impressive," beamed Bayern sports director Christoph Freund after Saturday's double in their 4-2 victory over Heidenheim. Kane already has more goals after 11 Bundesliga matches than last season's top scorers had in the entire campaign. Kane has also scored four times in four Champions League group matches, with Bayern having already secured a spot in the knockout stage with two games to spare. "I believe he can do anything," said Bayern team mate Thomas Mueller. Club bosses are equally delighted with Kane's goal bonanza, saying the move was the right one for both Bayern and the title-starved Kane.

PARIS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - European astronomers on Tuesday released the first images from the newly launched Euclid space telescope, designed to unlock the secrets of dark matter and dark energy - hidden forces thought to make up 95% of the universe. Scientists believe vast, seemingly organised structures such as Perseus could only have formed if dark matter exists. "The rest of the universe we call dark because it doesn't produce light in the normal electromagnetic spectrum. Tell-tale signs of the hidden force exerted by dark matter include galaxies rotating more quickly than scientists would expect from the amount of visible matter that can be detected. We think there's lots of dark matter in that cluster and pulling these galaxies together," she added.

MUNICH, Germany, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich's German Cup second round game at third-tier Saarbruecken on Wednesday hangs in the balance due to the hosts' pitch conditions with a decision expected on matchday, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said on Tuesday. Heavy rain in previous days has made the pitch almost unplayable with the German Football Association (DFB) set to inspect it two more times before a decision is taken. That was always the plan and has nothing to do with the pitch," Tuchel told a press conference. "If the DFB decides tomorrow that we will play I hope that it will be under normal conditions," Tuchel said. He knows how to play with an economy and he knows how to play a lot," Tuchel said of Kane, who scored a hat-trick in their 8-0 win over Darmstadt on Saturday.

The ban means Kimmich will miss Bayern's match at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday and the home game with promoted Heidenheim next week. Germany international Kimmich was shown a straight red card when he failed to control a pass from his own goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and then pulled down Marwin Mehlem at the edge of the box. CNN —England captain Harry Kane has settled into life in the Bundesliga with aplomb and, on Saturday, the forward scored a sensational goal from inside his own half during Bayern Munich’s dismantling of Darmstadt 98, echoing the exploits of former England captain David Beckham nearly 30 years ago. “I just saw the keeper out the corner of my eye in a strange position,” he told Sky Sports afterwards. Bayern Munich won 8-0. Tom Weller/dpa/APThe goal also contributed to Kane’s hat trick on Saturday as Bayern Munich defeated Darmstadt 98 8-0 following an extraordinary game which contained three red cards in the first half – one for Bayern and two for Darmstadt – and eight goals in the second half. Since joining the German club after a 19-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur, Kane has scored 14 goals in 13 games and is currently the second-most prolific goalscorer in the Bundesliga after Serhou Guirassy.

BERLIN, Oct 26 (Reuters) - There is more at stake for Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer when he makes his possible return to action in the Bundesliga on Saturday against Darmstadt 98 almost a year after injury. He did not travel to Bayern's Champions League game against Galatasaray in Istanbul on Tuesday to continue training while a rumoured return in the league last week did not materialise. "We have to wait and see," Bayern's Tuchel said on Tuesday when asked whether Neuer will return this week. A Bayern comeback for Neuer would mean that veteran keeper Sven Ulreich, who has been outstanding in his absence, will quickly slip back into his usual reserve role. Victory over visiting Darmstadt, in 12th place, could move Bayern provisionally into top spot, with Leverkusen, also unbeaten, in action against Freiburg on Sunday.

The market for semiconductor materials sold by the company's Electronics division, should "recover incrementally in 2024", Merck added. The company reaffirmed that sales would be broadly flat this year, at between 20.5 billion euros ($21.6 billion) and 21.9 billion euros, compared with 22.2 billion last year. The outlook for adjusted core earnings of 5.8 billion to 6.4 billion euros this year, down from 6.85 billion in 2022, was also confirmed. Higher interest rates have dampened investor appetite for risky biotech drug ventures, compounding a decline in coronavirus-related activities.

Merck, seen as leading the race to win approval for a more targeted type of MS drug, said in April that U.S. regulators had paused enrolment of new patients into a trial testing the drug, evobrutinib, knocking the German drugmaker's share price. "The readout of our Phase 3 study is going to happen in December," she added of the pivotal study in the clinical trials process. Novartis (NOVN.S), also in the race, said in April that no signs of liver damage had been seen in trials testing its anti-inflammatory drug candidate remibrutinib so far. Experts warn that boreout is "just as problematic" as burnout and can lead to quiet quitting. "Boreout is basically often the opposite extreme of burnout, but also can be just as problematic in terms of our work experience," Brodsky said in an interview with Insider. Boreout, when left untreated, can lead workers down the path to quiet quitting and disengagement. Monitoring employees leads to 'busyness theater'Some companies are keeping a closer eye on employees by using technology that monitors how much they're working. She explained it's a popular misconception that boreout comes from having inadequate work — workers can still get bored at companies where work piles up.

BERLIN, Sept 2 (Reuters) - New signing Victor Boniface scored twice for the second consecutive week as Bayer Leverkusen blew Darmstadt 98 away 5-1 on Saturday to make it three wins out of three league games for a perfect Bundesliga start. The 22-year-old Nigerian, who struck twice in last week's win over Borussia Moenchengladbach while also netting in the German Cup once, joined a month ago from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium but has hit the ground running. Boniface opened his account with a superb solo run and chipped in his finish in the 21st minute after driving past three defenders. Darmstadt levelled through Oscar Vilhelmsson's close range header but Xabi Alonso's team went back in front four minutes after the restart through Exequiel Palacios. Boniface then bagged his second goal of the afternoon, slipping into the box and flicking the ball past the keeper from a tight angle after a quick passing move.

Despite their ease of use, passwords come with significant downsides: More than 80% of data breaches are the result of weak passwords. In 2004, Bill Gates famously envisioned the death of traditional passwords, and there have been several attempts to replace them. That's great if all of your devices are from one company — your Apple passkey would work across an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. "Similar to our recommendations when it comes to other forms of authentication, we advise against the sharing of passkeys, passwords, etc. Passwords won't disappear overnight, but what FIDO Alliance has accomplished has convinced me our passwordless future is just around the corner.

Silver Lake submits offer document for Software AG

BERLIN, May 17 (Reuters) - Silver Lake officially submitted its offer document for Software AG (SOWGn.DE) on Wednesday, almost a month after announcing a 2.4 billion euro ($2.64 billion) takeover bid. In its offer document, Silver Lake reiterated that it intends to delist Software AG as soon as practically possible after the transaction. It has secured 30.1% of the share capital through a binding agreement with company founder Peter Schnell's Software AG Foundation, a charitable foundation and longstanding anchor shareholder, and through purchases on the stock exchange. Software AG's management and supervisory boards support Silver Lake despite Bain's higher offer, drawing criticism from minority shareholders at the company's annual general meeting on Wednesday. Software AG's chairman of the board of directors, Silver Lake partner Christian Lucas, was absent from the AGM which was run by an external lawyer.

[1/2] The logo of German pharmaceuticals company Merck is seen in front of the company's headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany, May 16, 2016. REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach/File PhotoCompanies Merck KGaA FollowPARIS, Dec 6 (Reuters) - France's ANSM national drug agency said it is under formal investigation on suspicion of issuing misleading information regarding German drugmaker Merck's (MRCG.DE) thyroid drug Levothyrox, adding it contested the provisional charges. The French Association of Thyroid Patients on Tuesday welcomed the development, but expressed disappointment that the provisional charges had not been more far-reaching. A court in the French city of Marseille had in October already placed Merck under formal investigation, meaning it is treated as a formal suspect but the case may yet be dropped. Merck said in October the investigation against it did not concern in any way the new formula for Levothyrox, but the way it provided information when changing from the old one.
