You can’t have growing pains without growing. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is definitely growing. The American Airlines hub expects to surpass 80 million passengers this year, a 9% increase over 2022 and a record for the airport, executives say. Last year, the airport was the second-busiest in the world by passenger traffic after Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to Airports Council International, a trade group.

An off-duty pilot was charged with trying to turn off a plane's engines while riding in the cockpit. The pilot was sitting in the "jump seat" which gave him easy access to the cockpit's operations. He says he was racially profiled by security officers at Spokane International Airport. An American Airlines pilot is suing Spokane International Airport in Washington state, as well as three security officers over a 2021 incident which saw him indefinitely suspended without pay. Bahig Saliba filed the lawsuit in a Washington district court on August 1, seeking over $23.5 million in damages. The pilot says that one of the security officers stood "in a threatening posture," and the defendants berated him while not listening to his attempts to explain the exemption. American Airlines and Spokane International Airport did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, sent outside US working hours.

A baggage handler said she faced distraught passengers and piles of lost bags over the holidays. Jamecia Vaughn, who works at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, said passengers were her biggest challenge. On each day that there were flight cancellations, Vaughn said she had lines of passengers in front of her, asking where their bags were. During the holidays, she had around 70 lost bags — and that's not including the luggage in the bag room, she added.
