The fight over Wisconsin — considered a must-win for Harris as part of Democrats’ so-called blue wall — could tilt the election. Tim Walz has re-energized staff members in the state, a campaign official told NBC News. With more than 200 staffers statewide, the Harris campaign touts 48 offices across Wisconsin, including some in smaller, more rural areas that Trump won in 2020. But the Trump campaign is mounting its own effort in the state. An RNC official also said the Trump campaign and the Wisconsin GOP have more than 70 staff members and 40 offices across the state.

They moved to southern Minnesota, then northern Minnesota to an off-the-grid cabin an hour north of Duluth. She said she's also adjusting to the fishing scene in Florida, which is mainly saltwater, compared to freshwater fishing in Minnesota. DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Republican Joe Fraser, a U.S. Navy veteran and political newcomer, launched a longshot campaign Tuesday to oust three-term Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, of Minnesota. Fraser served in the Navy for 26 years, according to his website, with deployments to Europe, Haiti, the Far East and the Middle East. But the popular Klobuchar, who ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, will be tough to beat. No current or recent office holders have indicated a desire to take on Klobuchar, and time is running out. No Republican has won statewide office in Minnesota since 2006, when Tim Pawlenty was reelected governor.

But a person who deals in stolen goods, known as a fence, informed him the rubies were glass, Martin said. But old habits die hard, and the thought of a ‘final score’ kept him up at night,” DeKrey wrote. Hollywood memorabilia collector Michael Shaw had loaned one pair to the museum when Martin stole them. Nearly two decades after he broke into the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minn., and stole a pair of Dorothy’s ruby slippers used in “The Wizard of Oz,” the man who committed the theft has revealed why: He believed the slippers were adorned with real rubies. Instead, Mr. Martin believed that the slippers must have been made with “real rubies” to justify their $1 million insured value, prosecutors said. He believed he would be able to peel off the gems and sell them on the black market — a plan that backfired when a man who traded in stolen jewels informed him that the gems were made of glass. On Monday, Mr. Martin was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Duluth, Minn., to time served and a year of probation for stealing the slippers after he pleaded guilty in October to one count of theft of a major artwork, Mr. DeKrey said. He was also ordered to pay about $23,000 in restitution to the museum, Mr. DeKrey said.

Martin pleaded guilty in October to using a hammer to smash the glass of the museum door and display case to take the slippers. Martin had no idea about the cultural significance of the ruby slippers and had never seen the movie. Garland wore several pairs of ruby slippers during filming of the classic 1939 musical, but only four authentic pairs are known to remain. The slippers were on loan to the museum from Hollywood memorabilia collector Michael Shaw when Martin stole them. The Judy Garland Museum, located in the house where she lived, says it has the world’s largest collection of Garland and Wizard of Oz memorabilia.

Gwinnett County police said Emanuel Rene Esfahani, a 20-year-old Lawrenceville man, turned himself in Tuesday and is charged with five counts of vehicular homicide. He's also charged with reckless driving, racing, speeding, unsafe lane change and not wearing a seatbelt. Investigators say Esfahani was racing a pickup truck driven by 18-year Hung Nguyen about 4 a.m. on Labor Day on Georgia 316 when the two came upon a slower vehicle. But Esfahani came upon a truck stopped in the emergency lane and swerved left, striking Nguyen's Toyota Tacoma. One had not been wearing a seatbelt, but investigators could not determine if the second passenger had been wearing one.
