CNN —The Almighty won’t be standing on stage alongside Joe Biden on Thursday night. Biden’s campaign laid the groundwork for the Atlanta showdown hosted by CNN in a weekend memo. If Trump rants and vents his 2020 election lies on Thursday, he will play into Biden’s hands. That could avoid the mayhem of the first Trump v. Biden debate in 2020. His campaign has spent days trying to roll back his expectations of Biden as a doddering, elderly president who can’t string two words together.

I love “Seinfeld.” As for the actual comedian Jerry Seinfeld, however it’s…complicated. In most of his activities outside his eponymous classic sitcom (1989-1998), Seinfeld bemuses more than amuses me. This ambivalence only obliquely affects my opinion of “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s recently-released feature-length Netflix comedy. Still, I’ve always had the disquieting sense of Seinfeld somehow always Getting Away With Something when he pulls off this suave, impeccably creased act. Seinfeld isn’t about unsettling his viewers and I’m in no way suggesting he should be.

Within days, millions of TikTok videos using music from Universal artists went mute, and since then guessing which side would blink first has become a media-business parlor game. Richard Leibner, a powerful agent whose firm brokered contracts for many of the biggest names in television news, including Dan Rather, Diane Sawyer, Anderson Cooper, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer and Steve Kroft, died on Tuesday at his home in Manhattan. His son Jonathan said the cause was kidney cancer. Mr. Leibner’s firm, N.S. Bienstock — named for one of its founders, Nathan Bienstock — represented hundreds of anchors, reporters, producers and others in network and local television news. The negotiation that grabbed the biggest headlines was for Mr. Rather, then one of the star correspondents of the CBS News program “60 Minutes.”Between late 1979 and early 1980, Mr. Leibner (pronounced LEEB-ner) parlayed interest in Mr. Rather as the evening anchor from all three network news divisions: ABC News, whose president, Roone Arledge, was trying to raise his third-place division’s profile; NBC News, where the evening anchor John Chancellor was hoping to change to a commentary role; and CBS News, where Walter Cronkite had been the evening anchor since 1962.

If Biden drops from the presidential race, it would likely lead to a contested convention in August. AdvertisementFor years, Democratic President Joe Biden has been plagued with critiques about his old age and perceived cognitive skills. With no candidate having amassed a majority of the nation's delegates, the Democratic presidential nominee was decided at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where anti-war protesters angrily demonstrated outside. AdvertisementMost of the state delegates at the convention voted for Humphrey, leading him to win the Democratic Party's nomination. Unless Biden stuns the party and suddenly drops out, the current 81-year-old president is on a fast track to obtaining the Democratic presidential nomination.

His conversations with the Ukrainian people prove equally enlightening, both before the war – when many expressed doubts about Zelensky – and during it. It’s not just that life expectancy in Mississippi (71.9) now appears to be a hair shorter than in Bangladesh (72.4). Nor that an infant is some 70 percent more likely to die in the United States than in other wealthy countries. Nor even that for the first time in probably a century, the likelihood that an American child will live to the age of 20 has dropped. All that is tragic and infuriating, but to me the most heart-rending symbol of America’s failure in health care is the avoidable amputations that result from poorly managed diabetes. That noise of a saw on bone is a rebuke to an American health care system that, as Walter Cronkite reportedly observed, is neither healthy, caring nor a system.

Long before the word “tweet” was associated with anything other than birds, Einstein’s career was nearly derailed by an early form of the disinformation now ubiquitous on social media. In 1920, skeptical scientists who deemed Einstein a crackpot, and his theory of relativity nonsense, joined forces. Like other prominent Jews, Einstein was targeted as an enemy of the state, and a bounty was rumored to have been placed on his head. Einstein received a welcome reception whenever he arrived on the shores of New York City. For the final two decades of his life, he was one of the most widely respected public figures in the world.

Adam Taggart founded the YouTube channel Wealthion in April 2021. Adam Taggart, the founder of the financial education YouTube channel Wealthion, considers himself in a similar spot in the financial media landscape. Financial television outlets, he believes, aren't offering viewers the kind of mentally-nourishing content he thinks they need. But again, Taggart thinks his greatest strength is in providing a product that he believes viewers have a hard time finding elsewhere. "Wealthion was really born out of a desire to help the average American build wealth in a system that's kind of stacked against them," he said.
Bring Back Objective Journalism
  + stars: | 2023-02-15 | by ( Walter Hussman Jr. | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Beyond objectivity or back to objectivity? That seems to be an essential question for American journalism. Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication recently released a survey of some 75 journalists titled “Beyond Objectivity.” Many of them argued that objectivity should no longer be the standard in news reporting.
