MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) — The hallways of Bacone College are cold and dark. In the college’s historic buildings, there are leaks to plug, mold to purge and priceless works of Native American art to save from ruin. Founded in 1880 as a Baptist missionary college focused on assimilation, Bacone College transformed into an Indigenous-led institution that provided an intertribal community, as well as a degree. Across the country, there are only a few dozen tribal colleges, according to the American Indian College Fund, a nonprofit that supports Native American access to higher education. Tribal colleges must be sponsored by a federally recognized tribe and have a majority Native student enrollment.

For most of the 2024 presidential cycle, Nikki Haley has ceded ground in Iowa to Donald J. Trump, who dominates its polls, and to Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, who has made the state central to his hopes of besting the Republican front-runner. But Ms. Haley, who has focused more energy on the primaries in New Hampshire and her home state of South Carolina where she served as governor, is sending strong signals that she still intends to make it a fight. With just two months to go before the critical first-in-the-nation caucuses, Ms. Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations, is starting a series of campaign events Thursday as her battle with Mr. DeSantis to become Mr. Trump’s nearest rival reaches a fever pitch. “She is peaking at the right time,” said Chris Cournoyer, a state senator and Ms. Haley’s Iowa state chairwoman.

[1/50] Oct 11, 2023; Calgary, Alberta, CAN; Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele (55) skates during the warmup period against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome. Kyle Connor, Alex Iafallo and Mark Scheifele scored for the Jets. Connor equaled the score just over two minutes later when a wrist shot from the slot handcuffed Markstrom and trickled over the line. Again the Jets tied the score, drawing even when Iafallo redirected Dylan DeMelo's point shot at 11:19 of the second period. However, Scheifele found the mark with 5:42 remaining in regulation, lifting a top-shelf shot from the slot to again tie the clash.

“No,” says Ryan, to a collective gasp. The agency has so many rogue operations, so many black-ops agents at large, so many unexplained entries on its books that I don‘t know what is going on, he says. The entire intelligence landscape is befogged. I’ll be your patriot, he says. But I won’t play your games.

Dec 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is planning to make recommendations on how to regulate the use of popular cannabis compound CBD in food and supplements, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing agency officials. After weighing the evidence on the compound's safety, the FDA will decide within months how to regulate legal cannabis and whether that will require new agency rules or new legislation from Congress, according to the report. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-psychoactive compound derived from cannabis. Cannabis products, excluding Jazz Pharmaceuticals PLC's (JAZZ.O) Epidiolex, are illegal at the federal level in the United States, although some states allow their use.
