Hong Kong CNN —Beijing says it’s investigating fashion retailer PVH Corp, the owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, for refusing to source cotton from the Xinjiang region, in a move that could lead to sanctions on an American company with major business interests in China. The ministry said in a statement that New York-based PVH (PVH) is suspected of “violating normal market transaction principles” by boycotting cotton sourced from China’s far western region of Xinjiang. Being banned by China would deal a big blow to PVH, which, like other global fashion firms, sources extensively in the country. Western apparel brands have faced pressure in China over their position on Xinjiang cotton before. In March 2021, Swedish multinational H&M was pulled from major e-commerce stores in China and blocked by several major navigation, review and rating apps.

The delivery service is working with at least two local delivery providers, one in Austin, Texas, and another in Fresno, California, through its Local Commerce Service Partner Program. That's a big change from the gig workers that DoorDash and other delivery services have largely built their businesses on. Uber, Lyft, Instacart, and other delivery companies have also relied on gig workers to build their businesses, leading millions of people in the US into the gig economy. Gig workers lack many of the benefits and legal protections that employees get. The amount delivery services pay gig workers has been going up in some cities, too.

After publishing the article about Gen Z's predisposition to take time away, I got a lot of feedback from older generations. Some of it was predictable "the kids these days" complaints lamenting that nobody wants to work nowadays, that work ethic has disappeared, etc. "When you work for yourself, you're working for one of the biggest jerks you've ever worked for," he said. None of the boomers I talked to was in favor of people calling out of work willy-nilly.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise – The technology stock added almost 3% on the back of a Barclays upgrade to overweight from equal weight. General Motors , Ford Motor – The auto stocks fell following downgrades from Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas due to rising China competition and a weakening U.S. consumer. The analyst downgraded Ford Motor to equal weight from overweight, while General Motors was lowered to underweight from equal weight. Shares of General Motors and Ford fell roughly 3% and 2%, respectively.

Shein said it was "ready to cooperate openly with relevant Italian authorities, providing the necessary support and information to address any inquiries". The probe is the latest in a string of investigations by regulators across Europe into potentially misleading environmental claims by companies, as new European Union regulation seeks to crack down on greenwashing. It also said that Shein's website appeared to emphasize a commitment to decarbonization which seems to be contradicted by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions shown in Shein's sustainability reports for 2022 and 2023.
