Three people broke into a shoe shop in the city of Huancayo in central Peru on Sunday. They made off with 200 sneakers — but they were all for the right foot, per Peruvian newspaper El Comercio. The heist is worth a total of 50,000 Peruvian Soles, or $13,400, Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reported Tuesday, citing another local outlet Diario Correo. Footage from the shop's security camera captured the crime, El Comercio reported. A Tuesday tweet from El Comercio showed a photo of the messy shoe shop following the crime.
Spanish region spent $276 million on trains before they realized they were too big to fit in the tunnels. The president of Cantabria, a region of northern Spain, called the error an "unspeakable botch." Two senior officials in the Spanish transport industry were fired earlier this week after local news outlet El Comercio reported last month that the government had spent €258 million (about $276 million) on unusable trains. Renfe — the country's national train operator — ordered the trains in 2020, granting the manufacturing contract to the transport manufacturing company CAF. This is not the first time there have been sizable train troubles in Europe: in 2014, a French rail company spent billions of euros on trains that were "too wide" for the tracks.
LISBON (Reuters) - Investments through Portugal’s “golden visa”, which gives wealthy foreigners residence rights, jumped nearly 50% last month, data showed on Sunday, as the government considers whether to scrap the controversial scheme. REUTERS/Rafael MarchanteThe golden visa has been heavily criticised at home for sending house prices and rents up, and the European Commission has called for the end of such national programmes. Murat Coskun, Get Golden Visa CEO, said Costa’s comments had had a “significant impact on the appetite” for the measure, with his company seeing a five-fold increase in inquiries. Data from border agency SEF on Sunday showed investment through golden visas increased 48% in November from October to 65 million euros, and was up 41% from a year earlier. Portugal suspended golden visas for Russians, but 431 had already benefited from the scheme since the time of its launch, according to SEF.
