I shopped at Williams Sonoma for the first time, visiting the Columbus Circle location in New York. I was impressed by the wide range of kitchen tools, helpful resources, and free perks. AdvertisementWith over half of its business conducted online, kitchen and home furnishings company Williams Sonoma is one of the largest e-commerce retailers in the US, Business Wire reported. I've purchased Williams Sonoma cookware from friends' online wedding registries many times, but I had never actually set foot inside one of its brick-and-mortar locations. Zacks Equity Research attributes the recent success of Williams Sonoma to its expanding line of products and collaborations with brands like Netflix, its bolstered e-commerce platform, and its business-to-business strategy.

On Wednesday night, two sturdy bouncers framed an unmarked doorway between a pizzeria and a vape shop on West 57th Street. Those granted entry descended a narrow staircase to the door of Silencio New York, where a new offshoot of the swank Parisian nightclub was hosting its inaugural party. The Silencio on rue Montmartre has attracted a cross-section of Paris’s fashion, art and music scenes since it opened in 2011, with the involvement of the filmmaker David Lynch. (Its name references the eerie theater in Mr. Lynch’s 2001 movie “Mulholland Drive.”)Although its new location near Columbus Circle is not slated to officially open until later this month, it opened its doors early for a celebration for “Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys,” the power couple’s exhibition highlighting Black art stars that opens at the Brooklyn Museum on Saturday.

Roughly $2.1 trillion of debt connected to commercial real estate assets, including office properties, apartment buildings, hotels, and retail spaces, will come due between now and the end of 2025 in the US, according to the real estate services firm JLL. The wave of maturities and the enormous equity shortfalls have raised concerns that a growing number of commercial real estate debts will fall into distress, forcing banks and other lenders to suffer losses. His group tracked about $15 billion of commercial property debt sales during the year, roughly three times the volume from 2022. Commercial real estate loans differ from residential mortgages taken by homeowners in that most are interest-only or pay down their principal balance minimally and span a decade or less. More banks are exploring loan salesBanks and other lenders generally aren't eager to seize the real estate assets that collateralize their debt.

CNN —Hundreds of pro-Palestinan protesters snarled Manhattan traffic and curtailed people’s access to Grand Central Terminal as they demonstrated in New York City on Friday night, in part demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. The demonstrations temporarily closed access to the terminal, one of the city’s largest transportation hubs, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Metro-North Railroad said online Friday night. Video also showed police keeping demonstrators back from The New York Times building on Friday. One night earlier, several protesters occupied the building’s lobby, and some of them were arrested Thursday night, police said. By 10 p.m. Friday, many of the protesters had left the Grand Central Terminal area while police officers remained for security reasons.

In Washington, speakers from national abortion rights groups including Women's March and NARAL Pro-Choice America will assemble in Columbus Circle to celebrate the defeat of some abortion opponents in the 2022 midterm races and rally voters ahead of next year's congressional and presidential elections. The June 24, 2022, Supreme Court ruling allowed U.S. states to ban abortion care for the first time in nearly 50 years. Conservative states have passed a flood of legislation to restrict the procedure, while other states have moved to protect abortion access. Democratic U.S. lawmakers proposed a measure on Thursday that would protect abortion patients and providers from criminalization nationwide, but its passage is unlikely given the deeply divided Congress. On the other side of the fight, some abortion opponents are pushing for a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

It was a rather unremarkable Tuesday at Central Park West and Columbus Circle. A light breeze rustled the sycamore branches hanging over a bicycle rental kiosk filled with neat rows of mint green helmets. Then, at 4:41 p.m., a black Mercedes van crept through the jam of buses, police vehicles and flower-adorned bicycle cabs. He was on his way to Yankee Stadium to throw the ceremonial first pitch for Tuesday night’s game with Seattle. But before that, he wanted to try something he had never done: ride the New York City subway.

Sales in Manhattan last declined in the fourth quarter of 2020, when they fell by 21%. While prices in the Big Apple remain high − with the average Manhattan apartment price rising 4% over the past year to $1.96 million − price increases are slowing and the inventory of unsold homes is starting to rise. Manhattan apartment sales fell 18% in the third quarter, as rising mortgage rates and declining stock markets put the brakes on New York's real estate comeback. "The real sellers are meeting the buyers," said Toni Haber of Compass. "The full impact on sales and prices won't be known for at least another quarter," according to a report from Brown Harris Stevens.
