The 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard report by INRIX, a transportation analytics company, found the typical U.S. driver lost 42 hours to traffic congestion — the equivalent of a full work week — that resulted in $733 worth of time lost. Congestion cost the U.S. more than $70.4 billion in 2023, a 15% increase from 2022. The report also states the return to the office post-Covid has continued to affect other modes of transportation. To rank the cities, INRIX looked at travel delay comparisons, collision trends, last-mile speeds, economic costs and time lost. Pishue says the biggest takeaway from the report was that of the urban areas studied globally, 78% saw increased traffic delays in 2023.

CNN —Tesla has issued two recalls on the Cybertruck, its third and fourth, since the model was introduced late last year. An investigation by Tesla revealed that the piece had not been properly installed. Cybertruck owners will be asked to bring their trucks to a Tesla service center where the trim piece will either be replaced or installed properly with “adhesion promotor” and pressure sensitive tape. The trucks are also being recalled for a separate issue in the electric motor that powers the truck’s single huge windshield wiper. Tesla has previously recalled the Cybertruck for other issues.

The 61-year-old officer was critically injured in the collision and later died in the hospital, according to police. The recall follows a May 21 accident in Phoenix, Arizona, in which a Waymo driverless car hit a telephone pole that was installed in the roadway in an alley. The vehicle was pulling over to pick up a passenger when it struck the pole at low speed, according to Waymo. While the car was severely damaged, no one was hurt, according to documents Waymo filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The regulator said the vehicles failed to comply with the federal safety requirements as their seat belt warning light and audible chime may not get activated when the driver is unbelted. The recall affects certain 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3 and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles. The remedy will remove dependency on the driver seat occupancy sensor from the software and only rely on driver seat belt buckle and ignition status to activate the seat belt reminder signals, the NHTSA said. Tesla had recalled 200,000 Model S, X, and Y vehicles in the US in January due to a software malfunction that could obstruct drivers’ visibility while reversing.
