NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — A small airplane collided with a vehicle as it made an emergency landing on Interstate 75 in southwest Florida on Friday afternoon, authorities said. The crash landing happened near the Pine Ridge Road exit in Collier County, just north of where the interstate heads east toward Fort Lauderdale along what is known as Alligator Alley. The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release that the southbound lanes were closed and advised motorists to seek alternate routes. A photo captured by the Florida Department of Transportation showed a huge plume of black smoke rising from the plane. It was not immediately known if anyone was injured.

At least two people were killed when a small plane crashed on Interstate 75 near Naples, Fla., on Friday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane, a Bombardier Challenger 600 series jet, was carrying five people when it crashed on the highway around 3:15 p.m., the F.A.A. It was not immediately clear if the plane crashed into any cars or whether anyone on the ground was injured. Photos and video footage from the scene showed the aircraft’s fuselage in flames and a large plume of smoke billowing above the crash site. A six-mile stretch of the interstate will be closed for at least 24 hours, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

LGBTQ advocates have slammed the statutes as an effort to erase them from Florida schools and society. “Right now, in the public schools at least, the unisex restroom is the teacher’s restroom. So we have a situation whereby all the nonbinary and transgender (people) and the teachers all line up for this unisex bathroom. The rule does not yet apply to Florida’s state universities like University of Florida, Florida State University and University of Central Florida.

A Florida doctor accused of raping his sedated patients was found dead on Monday in what has been ruled a suicide, officials said. Salata’s wife was present at the office at the time of the arrest, according to the arrest report. That victim told police she "couldn't believe" he had raped her because of her age, the arrest report states.
