New York CNN —Coca-Cola is discontinuing the production of its new Spiced flavor just six months after the soda hit shelves, marking the end of a disappointing attempt to attract younger drinkers. “As part of this strategy, we’re planning to phase out Coca-Cola Spiced to introduce an exciting new flavor in 2025,” a spokesperson said. The short lifespan of Spiced Coke is surprising, because the company promoted it as a permanent flavor. Coca-Cola introduced Spiced Coke in February with a splashy ad campaign. The beverage blended the traditional Coke flavor with raspberry notes.

New York CNN —For the past few years, Coca-Cola has experimented with wacky limited-time offerings, but its latest flavor is its first permanent addition in a while. Coca-Cola Spiced is a new soda that blends the “iconic taste” of Coke with a “burst of refreshing notes from raspberry and spiced flavors,” the company announced Wednesday. Coke doesn’t often add new permanent flavors to its lineup: Spiced joins just a few other flavors it always sells, including its flagship flavor, cherry and vanilla. “It appears Coca-Cola is looking to splice that trend onto its flagship with hopes of getting young consumers to consider the entire franchise,” he told CNN. Coca-Cola Spiced goes on sale February 19 in both cans and bottles in various sizes at most national retailers.

New York CNN —Coca Cola-owned BodyArmor is unleashing its newest beverage as part of its years-long effort to overthrow Pepsi’s Gatorade from its position as the top-selling sports drink brand. Rolling out to retailers this month is BodyArmor Zero Sugar, a sugar-free version of its popular flavored sports drink, taking aim at Gatorade’s G Zero beverages. “We know that there is a consumer that looks specifically for zero sugar, and until now, BodyArmor didn’t have a product to play with there.”BodyArmor Zero Sugar comes in four flavors, including fruit punch, lemon lime, orange and cherry lime. New York CNN —Coca-Cola is launching a new limited-edition flavor for gamers, a demographic increasingly pursued by mainstream food and beverage brands. For this new flavor, called Coca-Cola Ultimate, the soda maker partnered with Riot Games, which publishes the multi-player online battle arena game League of Legends. Coca-Cola Ultimate bottles. As in most of those cases (Marshmello’s flavor had notes of strawberry and watermelon) Coca-Cola won’t share what Ultimate is actually supposed to taste like. New York CNN —Pepsi Zero Sugar will soon taste different. Pepsi Zero Sugar’s tweaked formula comes about a year after debuted a refreshed Coca-Cola Zero Sugar recipe. From a sales standpoint, Pepsi Zero Sugar has struggled against main rival Coke Zero Sugar. “Pepsi can no longer be satisfied having an also-ran to Coke Zero Sugar,” Duane Stanford, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, told CNN. “Reformulating Pepsi Zero Sugar is a line in the sand that says it’s time to compete in earnest for share in the most important cola segment today.”He added that “reformulation is a must to compete effectively,” because customers like sweeter colas.
