His stance on fossil fuels put him at odds with his party and he was frequently blamed for single-handedly quashing some of the Biden administration's most ambitious climate policy goals. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who last week announced he will retire from the Senate at the end of next year, added to his party's woes on Wednesday when he said he "absolutely" would consider running for president in 2024. In an interview with NBC News, Manchin said: "Every American should consider it if they're in a position to help save the country." Democrats fear that a Manchin presidential run could draw votes away from President Joe Biden and hand former President Donald Trump a victory if he is the Republican nominee for the third presidential election in a row. Manchin never defended the remark but was criticized by West Virginia Republicans for what his party’s nominee said.
