AP —Firefighters found a dead woman entangled in machinery Thursday in a non-public baggage-processing area at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, said firefighters were called to the airport around 7:45 a.m. for a report of a person pinned in machinery used to move baggage. He said they discovered the woman entangled in a conveyer belt system in a baggage room. The baggage room wasn’t publicly accessible, Langford said, and it’s not clear how she found her way into it. After checking with the police department about the timing, Langford said he was told surveillance footage shows the woman walking in the baggage room at 2:27 a.m.

Those locations should provide more information about respiratory infections coming out of South America, Africa and Asia, particularly, CDC officials said. But they are given a COVID-19 home test kit to take with them, CDC officials say. That testing is for COVID-19, but CDC officials are evaluating the possibility of monitoring wastewater for other things, Walker said. The CDC program has a current budget of about $37 million.

CNN —A taxiing airplane collided with a shuttle bus at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Friday evening, injuring at least two people, the city’s fire department said. Six American Airlines employees on the bus were taken to a hospital to be evaluated, and no injuries were reported on the airplane, American Airlines said in an email. Air Wisconsin is a regional airline that performs flying services for American Airlines operating as American Eagle, according to the airline’s website. The collision happened “as we were rolling forward,” Kevis Mitchell, a passenger on the plane, told CNN. CNN —A United Airlines Boeing 767 plane lost its emergency evacuation slide in mid-air Monday – and it ended up in the backyard of a home near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, officials and a witness said. Patrick Devitt lives in the neighborhood where the slide came down, several miles from the runways at O’Hare. When he got to the house, he dragged the slide from his backyard to the front of the home. CNN —More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled across the United States, according to the flight tracking site FlightAware, as severe winter weather threatens holiday travel. As of Wednesday night, 1,024 flights have been cancelled for Thursday nationwide. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport leads the way, followed by Denver International and Chicago’s Midway International. Cancellations at those airports could have a wider impact, since they are busy hubs where travelers often change planes in order to reach other destinations. Experts are warning flyers to arrive early at the airport in order to beat the crowds.
