Saudi Arabia is set to raise more than $11.2 billion from its secondary public share offering in state-controlled oil giant Aramco, after the stock was priced at the lower end of its expected range. The company on Friday said it will price the 1.545 billion of shares on offer at 27.25 Saudi riyal ($7.27) apiece, with the sale expected to take place when markets next open on Sunday. A range of between 26.70 and 29 Saudi riyals per share was floated in the firm's initial marketing. The 27.25 Saudi riyal price is nearly 4% below the public stock's last settlement on the Tadāwul Saudi stock exchange. Investors typically expect a discounted price when new shares enter the public market, because of the increase in the overall supply of stock available to trade.

ConocoPhillips agreed on Wednesday to buy Marathon Oil in an all-stock transaction worth $17 billion that would bolster the company's shale assets as the broader oil and gas industry undergoes a major wave of consolidation. The deal will add 2 billion barrels of resources to ConocoPhillips' inventory in the U.S., extending the company's reach across shale fields in Texas, New Mexico and North Dakota. ConocoPhillips expects share buybacks worth $7 billion in the first year after the deal is completed and $20 billion in the first three years. ConocoPhillips' stock was down 3.3% in early trading following the announcement as Marathon Oil shares surged 7.3%. ConocoPhillips is the third-largest U.S. oil company with a market capitalization of $137 billion, while Marathon Oil has a market cap of $14.4 billion.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway sold a number of stocks last quarter during the volatile market, according to a new regulatory filing. The Omaha-based conglomerate dumped its remaining $780 million stake in General Motors , a stock Berkshire has been trimming for a few quarters. Berkshire also sold its $650 million stake in materials company Celanese , while exiting smaller positions in United Parcel Service , Johnson & Johnson , Mondelez International and Procter & Gamble. These holdings were still worth more than $1 billion each at the end of September, however. Berkshire has also asked the SEC to keep the details of one or more of its stock holdings confidential.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway reported another stellar quarter on Saturday, and the conglomerate revealed that three-quarters of its stock portfolio was tied up in just five names. The Omaha-based conglomerate said approximately 75% of the aggregate fair value was concentrated in five companies at the end of the third quarter. Buffett's juggernaut posted a big investment loss of $24.1 billion in the third quarter, largely due to a decline in its gigantic Apple stake. The Chevron stake went up in value as the energy stock gained more than 7% during the quarter amid a jump in oil prices. Still, the "Oracle of Omaha" advised shareholders to ignore the quarterly fluctuations in Berkshire's equity portfolio.

The emergence of OpenAI's large-language model ChatGPT has spurred investor excitement over AI, helping stocks with direct or perceived exposure to AI soar. AI stocks led the stock market in the first half of the year, with leading AI chipmaker Nvidia touching a $1 trillion market capitalization in May. The Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) has blown past one of its closest competitor from iShares, the S & P 500 Growth ETF (IVW) . The Vanguard fund has a total return of 7.96% this year, while the iShares fund has returned just 3.15%, according to FactSet. The Vanguard funds track the growth indexes from CRSP, while iShares S & P 500 follows products from S & P Dow Jones. Since IT has done well this year and energy has not, ETFs tracking S & P indices have underperformed growth ETFs tracking other indices," Ullal wrote. Meanwhile, the iShares S & P fund has more than a 4% combined weighting in ExxonMobil and Chevron .

XLE 1Y mountain Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund's strong performance Goldman's bottom-up price targets imply 13% market cap weighted total return to the energy stocks it covers. The firm's buy-rated stocks have an implied 26% average total return. Of the stocks Goldman rates a buy, several have upside north of 40% to the firm's price targets. The stocks with the highest total return are Antero Resources and Cheniere Energy , both at 48%, according to Goldman Sachs.
