New York City has put DocGo in charge of key tasks, including helping to manage its main intake center at a Manhattan hotel. The police in the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga, where some migrants relocated from New York City are staying, say they are investigating the interactions DocGo had with the victims and suspects in two alleged sexual assaults before the police arrived. In one instance, a migrant was accused of assaulting another migrant staying at one of the hotel shelters DocGo operates, and in another instance a migrant was accused of assaulting a DocGo subcontractor. DocGo’s chief executive, Anthony Capone, said the company was “devastated by what happened” and was fully cooperating with law enforcement. After the assault allegations, New York City temporarily halted migrant relocations to Buffalo, and Ms. Hochul has sent National Guard troops to the hotels where they are staying.

Jay Withey, 27, of Kenmore, New York, made sure 24 people who were stuck on the side of the road during the brutal storm got out of harm’s way, police said. The blizzard stranded Withey in Cheektowaga, just east of Buffalo, on Friday. Security video shows people caught in the storm taking shelter at Pine Hill School in Cheektowaga, N.Y. via Cheektowaga Police Dept. “I’m terribly sorry about breaking the school window and for breaking in the kitchen,” he wrote. The storm is blamed for at least 40 deaths in New York, most of them in Buffalo.
Target workers in Buffalo hosted stranded shoppers and motorists during a deadly storm. Around 24 people took shelter from the storm in the Target over two days, The Buffalo News reported. A group of seven Target employees in Cheektowaga offered the closed store as shelter to around 24 motorists that were stranded during the storm, the Buffalo News reported. One driver, Jessica Sypniewski, told the news outlet she had been refused by a nearby grocery shop before she tried the Target store on December 23. The Target workers hosted the string of people over two days as the blizzard left much of the city in icy conditions unsafe for travel.
The NLRB has accused Starbucks of using "illegal tactics" to deter workers from unionizing. Starbucks also "repeatedly" closed the Buffalo stores early "to hold anti-union meetings," which reduced staff's earnings, the NLRB wrote. Workers United – the union that the Starbucks stores are organizing with – previously said Starbucks' actions were affecting staff's stance on unionizing. Starbucks workers in Buffalo first announced plans to unionize last August, citing understaffing, product shortages, and their experiences working during the pandemic. In May, the NLRB also petitioned for injunctive relief for seven former Starbucks employees in Memphis, Tennessee it said were "unlawfully fired" for organizing.
