The Biden administration is moving to ban medical debt from credit reports. Medical debt, she said, "makes it more difficult to get by, much less get ahead. A recent study estimated that one in five U.S. households live with medical debt, including people with health insurance; and that on average, a typical American household owes about $4,600 in medical debts. "Medical bills on credit reports too often are inaccurate and have little to no predictive value when it comes to repaying other loans." The association said it had also extended the time before medical collections debt appears on credit reports and deleted resolved debts and medical collection debts below $500.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., announced Friday that he is not running for president after spending months mulling a bid that would have shaken up the 2024 campaign. I will not be involved in a presidential run," Manchin said during a speech. In a statement following Manchin's announcement, former Connecticut Sen. Joe Liberman, former North Carolina Gov. Democrats feared a Manchin candidacy would have pulled votes away from President Joe Biden and boost former President Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican frontrunner, in a general election.

Fontes’s office told the group last month that it is obligated to accept filings from candidates even if party leaders reject them. No Labels has drawn extra scrutiny in Arizona, one of a dozen states where it has secured ballot access for a potential presidential candidate. By refusing to nominate candidates for state offices, No Labels argues it is not subject to Arizona’s campaign finance disclosure laws. The party argues state law allows political parties to participate only in elections that they choose and the U.S. Constitution protects the party’s right to freely associate or not associate with candidates. Candidates have filed statements of interest to run for U.S. Senate and Arizona Corporation Commission, the state’s utility regulator.

The very existence of the No Labels group is fanning Democratic anxiety about Trump’s chances against an incumbent president facing questions about his age and record. If even a small number of those voters were to back a No Labels candidate next year, Biden could fall short. No Labels party members skew younger. Twelve percent of them live in the 4th Congressional District, which includes Arizona State University. Such a poll would be meaningless because a large swath of voters won’t know anything about the No Labels candidate before a campaign is run, he said.

How to Build Credit Without a Credit Card
  + stars: | 2023-07-31 | by ( Emily Sherman | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +11 min
The problem: The best way to build your credit score is to make regular payments on your credit card — and often you can’t get a credit card until you already have a good credit score. Become an authorized userThe fastest and easiest way to build your credit score — if it’s an option for you — is for a family member or friend with a good credit to add you as an authorized user to their credit card. Once a cardholder adds you to their account, you’ll get your own credit card, earn rewards (if applicable) and get credit for on-time payments and a credit utilization ratio. Get a secured credit cardIf you don’t have any of the loans listed here or find you need another option for building credit, a credit card is still an option. Specifically designed for those just getting started building credit, secured credit cards use a deposit as collateral to reduce risk, so even those with poor credit can qualify.

As the ostensibly bipartisan interest group No Labels discovered on Monday, consensus campaigning and governance is all well and good until it comes time for the details. At an event at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., the group had something of a soft launch of its potential third-party bid for the presidency when Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, and Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Republican governor of Utah, formally released No Labels’ policy manifesto for political compromise. The two men took pains to say they were not the bipartisan presidential ticket of a No Labels candidacy, and that no such ticket would be formed if the Republican and Democratic nominees for 2024 would just embrace their moderation — “that won’t happen if they’re not threatened,” Mr. Manchin said threateningly. On the lofty matter of cooperation and compromise, both men were all in, as were their introducers, Joseph I. Lieberman, a former Democratic senator turned independent, Benjamin Chavis, a civil rights leader and Democrat, and Pat McCrory, a former Republican governor of North Carolina.

Lieberman, a former U.S. senator and unsuccessful vice presidential candidate, said No Labels hopes to offer a legitimate "third choice" candidate. "We're not in this to be spoilers," Lieberman told ABC's "This Week" program. Former Democratic Senator Doug Jones said a third-party No Labels candidate could not secure the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win. But he said a No Labels candidate could help Trump regain the White House he lost to Biden in 2020. Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie rejected the group's approach outright on Sunday.

That’s why we asked three credit experts what they think of common credit score tips—and how you can really make the most of them. What experts say: Experts agree that getting more available credit can indeed help your credit utilization and credit scores. You might see positive changes to your credit as soon as your new credit limit makes it to your credit report. Some of the easiest options include becoming an authorized user on a family member’s credit card or applying for a secured credit card, which involves depositing money with the credit card issuer.
How to Cancel a Credit Card

If you have a metal credit card, return it by mail to the credit card issuer—your bank can send you a prepaid envelope at your request. According to popular credit advice, cancelling a credit card is a bad idea since it can hurt your credit. Say, you have two credit cards with a $2,000 credit limit and a total of $500 in credit card debt. First, if you have another credit card, you can try to request a credit limit increase to make up for the loss of available credit. Keep in mind, however, that a credit card application triggers a hard inquiry on your credit report, which can cost you some credit points.
