The North American Pet Health Insurance Association found that pet owners in the US paid $3.9 billion in premiums in 2023, a 22% increase from the year before. One thing is for sure: As the industry grows, pet insurance is becoming as confusing and messy as health insurance is for humans. Pet insurance isn't technically even health insurance; it falls in the property-and-casualty category. AdvertisementThe big problem with pet insurance is it's just an expensive productThere are three categories of pet insurance: accident only; accident and illness; and accident, illness, and wellness. Advertisement"It's important that pet owners understand the scope of what their pet insurance does and does not cover, so they're not caught off guard by unexpected payments," he said.

As equity markets print new all-time highs and the CBOE Volatility Index prints 52-week lows, this should be considered as a bullish outlook by all accounts. However, if we look under the hood, the internals during this rally concern me and in my opinion, warrants buying some protection on these all-time highs. If we look at the Sector Rotation RRG Chart, we see that over the past five weeks, the rally in the S & P 500 has been led by utilities, energy and staples. With materials and industrials also rolling over, we simply lack the confidence to call a strong bull market on the recent all-time highs. I'm going out to July and buying the $530 puts on the SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) for $7.35, which is only 1.3% of the SPY's value to buy over 2 months of protection.

Coinbase is poised to benefit from U.S. spot ether exchange-traded funds, if they are approved, according to JMP Securities. The turnaround sent ether soaring more than 20% to start the week. ETH.CM= 5D mountain Ether 5-day chart JMP's Devin Ryan said in a note Wednesday that Coinbase could see benefits to its transaction, custody and staking businesses as a result of the introduction of ether ETFs. He also said an ether ETF approval does not necessarily signal a blessing by the SEC of the broader crypto asset class, or even comfort around all ETH use cases, such as staking. JMP has an outperform rating on Coinbase and a price target of $320, implying nearly 42% upside from Tuesday's close.

She’s a business mogul in every sense: Aside from a prolific music career, she’s launched successful brands including her cosmetics empire Fenty Beauty – worth an estimated $2.8 billion according to Forbes – and her lingerie label Savage X Fenty. Her latest move in China to promote makeup products is something of a masterclass in how to tap into its lucrative – mostly online – Gen Z market. On Tuesday night, the chart-topping singer attended a Fenty Beauty pop-up held at a Shanghai photography museum, “servin’ face” according to brand’s Instagram, and “jianbing” – a popular Chinese breakfast crepe that costs about a dollar. In a screengrab from Instagram, Rihanna makes jianbing in Shanghai, China, during a visit to promote Fenty Beauty. While Fenty Beauty products have been available in the country since 2019, the brand announced this March that it would be expanding its presence via Sephora stores on the mainland.

That's not a lot of wiggle room if the stock reacts negatively to earnings: if the stock undercuts $915 (and stays below it), the breakout would be nullified. In other words, if an upside gap is filled this time instead, the market could be telling us that something has changed. In other words, NVDA has had many years of success both as a company and as a stock. It would take a lot more than a reaction to a single earnings report to change that. Natural gas futures have cleared their 200-day moving average and appear to have entered a long-term basing process. Given the potential for a long-term turnaround phase in natural gas prices, we were drawn to the energy sector as a source of potential long-term stock opportunities. Secondary resistance for natural gas comes from a Fibonacci retracement level near $3.50/MMBtu. How to play it One of the natural gas-related stocks that sets up well from a technical perspective is Cheniere Energy (LNG) , which is a provider of liquified natural gas. Dollar calm as traders await clues on U.S. rate path

In this photo illustration, a person seen holding a 100 US dollar bill in his hand. The dollar was broadly steady on Monday as investors awaited further clues to help chart the U.S. interest rate path in the wake of cautious comments from Federal Reserve officials, even as inflation shows signs of cooling. The Japanese yen was flat at 155.74 per dollar, with traders on alert for any signs of government intervention. That has prompted traders to trim the amount of easing expected this year to about 46 bps, with only a rate cut in November fully priced in. In other currencies, sterling touched a two-month high of $1.2711 ahead of the crucial UK inflation report due on Wednesday.

You can't argue with a market making new record highs, though it's fair game to interrogate the tape about its assumptions and intentions. With the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing above 40,000 for the first time Friday and the S & P 500 settling above 5,300 after hitting a fresh all-time high Wednesday, the advice of history suggests not overthinking it. Keith Lerner, strategist at Truist, marks up a long-term S & P 500 chart to show times when it was at an all-time high. Brian Belski, strategist at BMO, last week lifted his year-end S & P 500 target to a Street-high 5,600 . And, quite remarkably, the stock market low of October 2022 occurred at an S & P 500 forward P/E above 15, with unemployment below 4% and in mid-economic expansion.

Just this week, several stories drove home some of the things that parents and working women already have sensed. But it's a good signal for working moms. The chart shows that since 2015, the percentage of women working across all those groups has gone up in the last 10 years. It's that same mix for the state of working moms — not all good, but not all bad.

Paul McCartney has added another feather in his cap as the United Kingdom’s first billionaire musician, the Sunday Times reported in the 2024 edition of its annual Rich List, published Friday. According to the Times, the 81-year-old Beatles alum and his wife Nancy are worth £1 billion ($1.3 billion), up from £950 million ($1.2 billion) in 2023. Beyoncé earlier this year released her hit album “Cowboy Carter,” in which she reimagined the Beatles’ 1968 song “Blackbird,” originally written by McCartney. McCartney has released some music of his own over the past year: Last November, the Beatles released the chart-topping “Now and Then,” advertised as the group’s final song. McCartney famously sang that he doesn’t care too much for money, but the new album’s release is expected to give the rock star’s net worth another boost.

May 17 is the last chance to file 2020 returns and claim your refund — which could include missed pandemic relief, experts say. As of May 6, there was still an estimated $1 billion in unclaimed refunds from tax year 2020, and the median possible payment was $932, according to the IRS. But roughly 940,000 taxpayers could surrender their 2020 refund payment if they don't file by May 17, the agency explained in May. The 2020 tax deadline was postponed to May 17, 2021, amid the pandemic — and the three-year deadline to file 2020 returns and collect refunds is now upon us. "If you let if you let it slip, there's nothing anybody can do," said Bill Smith, national director of tax technical services at financial services firm CBIZ MHM.

Consumers have largely seen prices deflate for physical goods, such as cars, furniture and appliances, economists said.
