CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. Headwinds blowing from Middle East might have been tempered by optimism in China. Lifted by Beijing's recent announcement of economic stimulus, Chinese stocks have been on a tear. That's caused U.S. exchange-traded funds that track Chinese stocks to rally, helping to keep the U.S. market afloat amid worries over the escalating Middle East conflict.

Editor’s Note: This article was originally published by The Business of Fashion, an editorial partner of CNN Style. The design was upcycled from vintage Chanel scarves by stylist Logan Horne, whose brand, J. Logan Home, specializes in refashioning heritage luxury accessories. Fashion brands' legal claims are varied but ultimately boil down to concerns that third parties are free-riding on brands’ valuable IP in ways that could risk confusing consumers, eroding primary sales and tarnishing or diluting carefully cultivated marks. Some big brands, like Prada, Gucci and indeed Levi’s, have already dabbled with upcycling collections and programs of their own. These days, she says she’s having about a conversation a week with brands interested in exploring collaboration, but the industry moves slowly.

Handbags displayed in a Chanel SA store window at the Avenuel department store, operated by Lotte Shopping Co Ltd., in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Whether it's calf-leather Italian Prada bags or classic, checkered British Burberry trench coats, South Koreans are the world's biggest spenders on personal luxury goods per capita, Morgan Stanley said. The investment bank estimated South Korean total spending on personal luxury goods grew 24% in 2022 to $16.8 billion, or about $325 per capita. Luxury brands have also highlighted strong sales in Korea. Moncler said its revenue in South Korea "more than doubled" in the second quarter compared with before the pandemic.
LONDON—The booming market for secondhand luxury goods is creating a dilemma for makers of high-end handbags, fashion and jewelry: Join the trend, or ignore it. Secondhand luxury isn’t new, but its popularity is surging. Steep price hikes by prestigious brands like Chanel SA are driving some luxury buyers to look for less expensive used items. Others are seizing on secondhand goods’ sustainability bona fides: A used pair of designer jeans doesn’t cost any more of the planet’s resources to make.
