There is no tragedy porn in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," which premieres on screens this Wednesday and on Netflix on Dec. 18. And though nine of his films were set in his native Pittsburgh, "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" has 1920s Chicago as its backdrop — and a defiant Black woman at its center. “Between the World & Me,” is something altogether different, both old and new, a combination of film and theater that could only work on TV. Coates may not have known these specific events would happen, but the world continues to live down to his expectations. “Between the World and Me” has tapped into something that falls in between the two genres, a work all its own, a pandemic-influenced theatrical TV performance that is neither movie nor limited series nor show. It is, as HBO terms it, a special, in every sense of the word. Special enough that HBO is working to make sure it reaches as wide an audience as possible, available to stream on HBO’s website.

(CNN) Chadwick Boseman's tragic death will draw understandable attention to "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," which represents his final role. On that score, the film's lessons echo into the present, in ways both clearly intended and that feel more relevant in light of recent events. Boseman's Levee has big dreams, which include bringing his own creative spin to Ma's songs, which simply won't fly with her. "You play Ma's music when you're here," he's told by Cutler ("Fear the Walking Dead's" Colman Domingo), a band veteran along with characters played by Glynn Turman and Michael Potts. Levee, moreover, is braving Ma's wrath in more ways than one, having set his eyes on her girlfriend ("Hit the Floor's" Taylour Paige).

Inherited a bunch of family stuff? How to turn estate classics into cash

Handling a loved one's estate after they have passed away is taxing, both emotionally and physically. There also is an estate with a lifetime of belongings in it that you will have to sort through. The personal property appraiser will assign a fair market value to the items but that doesn't mean the market value is equivalent to what someone else will pay. When a property is inherited the IRS establishes a fair market value, which will influence future taxes when the property sells. You will pay taxes on the difference between the fair market value and the time of inheritance and the selling price.

When people think of gene mutations, the breast cancer (BRCA) genes often come to mind. "Detailed analytical testing through the FDA review process showed that our Genetic Health Risk and Carrier Status reports meet accuracy thresholds of 99 percent or higher." Costs of screeningIf you are found to have a so-called "cancer-gene," you generally will start undergoing annual cancer screenings. Medicare also doesn't cover breast MRIs, which doctors recommend for those with a high breast cancer risk, as well as preventive surgeries, Schlager said. 'Managing your destiny'While there may be costs with cancer screenings, it is better than the alternative: not catching cancer early and paying for costly treatments.

With increased stress comes increased conflict, and we are certainly seeing this play out in the extreme. The social and economic disparities are hitting the transgender community "very hard," Clinton said in a phone interview with CNBC, adding transgender people already faced extra obstacles before the pandemic. Doctors are concerned the pandemic, which has shuttered businesses and schools and left people without jobs, may hit the LGBTQ community harder than most others. They also experience higher rates of illicit drug use, homelessness, isolation, anxiety, depression and suicide and often face barriers to health care, medical experts say. But doctors and health experts are unsure how severe the impact on the LGBTQ community is because data is so limited. Doctors fear the impact on LGBTQ people could be substantial when considering the social, economic and health risk factors the community already faces.

Dylan Hollingsworth/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe number of workers receiving and applying for unemployment benefits declined significantly last week, according to Labor Department figures issued Thursday. That's good news for workers and the U.S. economy — thousands of people are returning to work and coming off unemployment rolls. Continuing claims are a rough measure of the number of people collecting benefits from week to week. For example, in normal times, workers must actively be seeking a job in order to be eligible for unemployment benefits. Roughly 23 million Americans are collecting some form of unemployment benefits.

When "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman died almost two months ago after a four-year battle with colon cancer, he didn't have a will. Jeff Kravitz | FilmMagic, Inc | Getty ImagesThe actor isn't the only celebrity to die without making plans for his or her estate. The musician Prince also left behind no legal instructions for his $300 million estate when he died in 2016 at age 57. Because medical information is private, due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, also include a HIPAA authorization so that doctors can share that information with those making medical decisions, Parrish advises. For instance, a basic last will is $89 on LegalZoom, a comprehensive one is $99 and an estate plan bundle costs $179.
