Christian Fischer scored his first goal of the season for the Red Wings. Montreal converted on 2 of 5 power play chances while the Red Wings came up empty on four power plays. Detroit knotted the score with 3:16 left in the period when the puck deflected off Fischer's body and past Primeau.

Down 3-1, the Canadiens struck with 17 seconds remaining in the second period on the power play. Solid puck movement by the Blue Jackets led to the first goal of the game. The Blue Jackets made it 2-0 when Roslovic and Ivan Provorov set up Bemstrom to drive home a power-play, one-timer with 2:39 remaining in the first. Bemstrom pushed the Blue Jackets' lead back to two goals with another power-play tally.
