Christian Fischer scored his first goal of the season for the Red Wings. Montreal converted on 2 of 5 power play chances while the Red Wings came up empty on four power plays. Detroit knotted the score with 3:16 left in the period when the puck deflected off Fischer's body and past Primeau.

The Blue Jackets made it 2-0 when Roslovic and Ivan Provorov set up Bemstrom to drive home a power-play, one-timer with 2:39 remaining in the first.
