On Tuesday, Oklahoma's country music station KYKC refused to play Beyoncé's new song "TEXAS HOLD 'EM." Here's what to know about Beyoncé's challenges with being recognized by the country music industry. I requested Texas Hold ‘Em at my local country radio station (KYKC) and after requesting, i received an email from the radio station stating “We do not play Beyoncé on KYKC as we are a country music station. Although critics and fans praised Beyoncé's country pivot, the Country Music Association Awards and the Grammy's country music committee did not nominate the song for any awards, which was viewed as a snub. Known as "border radio," the unregulated American radio industry sprung up on Mexico's northern border in the 1930s. Michael Ochs Archives/Getty ImagesIn the years that followed, other border radio stations sprung up in Mexico. Hank Thompson, another country music star who grew up in Waco in the 30s, said border radio stations were the only stations where one could listen to country music most of the time. But the legacy of border radio stations continued to live on in the country music they helped popularize, as well as its cousin genres. According to American honky-tonk star Webb Pierce, country music "might not have survived if it hadn't been for border radio."

(AP) — With bipartisan support, a proposed Louisiana congressional map that would create a second majority-Black district sailed through the state Senate on Wednesday and will advance to the House chamber for debate. A second majority-Black district could also result in another Democratic seat in Congress. Officials have until Jan. 30 to pass new congressional boundaries with a second majority-minority district in Louisiana. A judge on the district court signaled that she will create a map by herself if lawmakers don't complete the task. On the Senate floor Wednesday, Democrats raised concerns that under the proposed map, the Black voting-age population in Carter's district would decrease to 51%.

When Blue Ivy Carter made her on-stage performance debut during her mother Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour in May, the accomplishment didn't come without controversy. "There [were] lots of negative things that people had to say," Carter, 11, said during "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," a documentary and concert film released on Friday. Joining her mom's tour was already a one-time deal — a reward for practicing her dancing and showing her commitment to building a work ethic, Beyoncé said. The film cut directly to the tour's final show in Kansas City, Missouri, where Carter joined Beyoncé on stage again, seemingly more confident and comfortable this time around. "I feel so honored to be on stage with you," Beyoncé told her daughter, in the documentary.
