French soccer star Kylian Mbappe will reportedly receive a signing-on bonus of at least £85 million, or $108.4 million, over the next five years after completing his much-anticipated move to Spanish giant Real Madrid. The 25-year-old World Cup winner is expected to officially join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of June. A spokesperson for Real Madrid did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. One of the photos showed Mbappe meeting former Real Madrid player and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. Confirmation of Mbappe's move to Real Madrid came shortly after the Spanish club won the Champions League final for a record-extending 15th time.

CNN —Cristiano Ronaldo was left sobbing on the pitch after Al-Nassr lost the Saudi King’s Cup final in a penalty shootout to rival Al-Hilal on Friday. The agonizing defeat, after the penalty shootout finished 5-4, meant that Al-Nassr finished the season without a trophy, while Al-Hilal triumphed in three competitions – the Roshn Saudi League, the Saudi Super Cup and the Saudi King’s Cup. Al-Hilal played most of extra time with another man down after Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for accumulating two yellow cards, but refused to concede another goal and the final ended in a dramatic penalty shootout. There, Ronaldo converted his penalty but could only watch on as Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved Al-Nassr’s last two penalties to give his team the victory. The defeat came after Ronaldo became the all-time top scorer in a single Saudi Pro League season earlier this week with 35 goals.

According to Forbes’ list, which was released on Thursday, Ronaldo earned $260 million over the last 12 months, $200 million from his club contract with Al-Nassr and $60 million in off-field earnings. Rahm’s total earnings are $218 million, Forbes calculated – $198 million through playing wages alone – while Messi’s are $135 million, more than half of which ($70 million) are off-the-field payments. Foreign direct investment in China has slumped in recent months as a combination of slower growth, regulatory crackdowns, onerous national security legislation and questions about the country’s long-term growth prospects have shaken confidence in the world’s second biggest economy. But global investors remain wary of China’s rising scrutiny of Western companies as well as a structural slowdown. In the first two months of 2024, foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country shrank nearly 20% from a year ago, underscoring weak confidence among global executives. Another gauge of FDI — direct investment liabilities — showed a 82% slump in 2023, according to figures released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange. China has set this year’s economic growth target at around 5%, the same as last year’s.
