Put another way, this isn’t going to be an “abortion” election or an “economy” election: 2024 is going to be the mom election. That decline is largely attributed to one key cost: child care. Both have since lapsed, leaving many families to teeter on (or fall off) a “child care cliff.”In 2024, the cost of child care — the cost of motherhood — has become untenable. They don’t see “motherhood issues,” such as child care and paid leave, as substantive, economic issues worth fighting for. For decades, moms have been divided — working moms versus stay-at-home-moms, single moms versus coupled moms, Moms for Liberty versus Moms Demand Action.

CNN —Julian Assange is no martyr, but the Trump administration’s continued pursuit of the WikiLeaks founder ended up making him one — in the eyes of many Australians. Assange, who was released from prison in the UK on June 24, has long been a polarizing figure in his native Australia. Once Assange pleads guilty, under the plea agreed with the US, he will have spent five years in solitary confinement. Assange’s WikiLeaks disclosures put Western human intelligence sources at risk by the way they were dumped on the internet unredacted. He is reported to be heading to Canberra where he’ll be given a hero’s welcome by some, including his family and hardline supporters.

Trump first asked the audience if they had ever heard of Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). From there, Trump boasted that he had told White: “Why don’t you set up a migrant league of fighters and have your regular league of fighters. Obviously, Trump’s point in his migrant UFC proposal was that despite the toughness of the professional UFC fighters, the migrants coming to America are actually stronger, tougher and more dangerous. That moment came when Trump told the audience that the UFC president didn’t like the migrant fight league idea, adding, “But actually, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever had.”Trump is telling the truth there: Musing about a migrant fighting league is vile — but it’s not his worst idea. Trump proposing a dehumanizing physical battle between migrants who would then fight the UFC champions — which conjures up Roman gladiator matches — is simply more evidence of Trump’s depravity.

Mine started at the core of an Orthodox South Indian Christian family in Nigeria, West Africa, where I was born and raised. Being gay can be perceived as very shameful and devastating to an Indian family — regardless of how incredibly accomplished you might be. Silently, even today, most Indian parents would be thrilled if their kids became doctors —it’s estimated that India is the biggest source country for doctors in the US. We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. When Biden and Trump meet in a debate on CNN Thursday, expect part of the audience to be wondering exactly who and what will come next. Biden, who’s battling low approval ratings, is sticking with Vice President Kamala Harris, whose polls are also bleak. There were 28, and we’ve had 11 so far this year, Bridget Johnson noted in the first of a CNN Opinion series about America’s preparedness. “It’s a measure of his hold on American society that he’s still revered a half-century later,” wrote Frederic J. Triple-digit temperatures have hit the western states, with the Northeast, Midwest and Great Lakes regions expected to see extreme heat waves this week. Weather-related deaths from extreme heat are more common than from those from hurricanes, floods, extreme cold and other natural disasters. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1,220 people die from extreme heat every year. The article also cited an organization that is preemptively hiring a new auditor in case Trump were to direct the Internal Revenue Service to target the group during a second term. Trump is telling anyone who will listen what his dark goals are for a second term — from mass deportations to the construction of expansive detention camps for migrants to expanding his presidential power. Even the strategy detailed in Sunday’s New York Times article, which included using the courts to slow down a second-term Trump agenda, is far less likely to be successful this time. One reason for this is that in his first term, Trump was able to confirm more than 200 federal judges including three US Supreme Court justices that he personally appointed. That is why second-term resistance strategies only divert resources from the more pressing imperative at hand: keeping Trump from winning a second term.

And he pointed out that young people spend an average of 4.8 hours on social media each day, according to a 2023 Gallup survey. The ceremonies, as is tradition, honor those who fought and died in World War II, and reaffirm a commitment to learn the lessons of history. But what exactly are those lessons, and how exactly will world leaders turn that commitment into reality? But much more must be done and, as with most change, it’s important to start by admitting there’s a problem. The phenomenon of Democrats dismissing the polls in favor of misplaced optimism has been termed “hopium” by data journalist Nate Silver. Polling denial is not unanimous in the party, as many Democrats are reportedly in a full-blown “freakout” over Biden’s chances. It’s essential they admit the polling is correct, because if Biden is winning, there is little need to change course. This means these groups likely share top concerns with moderate voters generally.

Opinion: Why we’re having less sex
  + stars: | 2024-06-04 | by ( Opinion Jill Filipovic | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
Women still cannot hold top positions in many religious institutions, and so many have understandably rejected these misogynistic formal patriarchies. If young women do indeed feel freer to opt out of sex they don’t want, that’s great. And most women desire sex, too, and deserve to have sex that feels good. This doesn’t mean everyone needs to be having sex all the time. The trick is refusing to fall into sexist ideas about what sex is for or how women should be valued.

The criminal trial and conviction of (mostly former) national leaders has happened in stable, mature democracies, just as it has in former dictatorships. The track record of convicted leaders shows just how risky it is to try to predict what will happen. In 2017, South Korea impeached and later criminally convicted now-former President Park Geun-hye in a bizarre corruption scandal involving the influence of a friend and confidante. After a scandal emerged involving the state oil company Petrobras, Lula was convicted in 2017 of corruption and money laundering. “Political leaders can choose how they will speak about these institutions.”

CNN —It’s taken more than half a year, but, finally, President Joe Biden has publicly unveiled an Israeli plan that could end the bloodshed in Gaza. But getting the two sides to actually agree to — and implement — the peace plan is far from a certainty. As the Gaza war continues, Israel’s dreams of normalization with the Arab world will steadily erode. Support for the Gaza war among Americans has dropped from 50% at the beginning of the war in November to 36% in March, according to Gallup.
