Put another way, this isn’t going to be an “abortion” election or an “economy” election: 2024 is going to be the mom election. That decline is largely attributed to one key cost: child care. Both have since lapsed, leaving many families to teeter on (or fall off) a “child care cliff.”In 2024, the cost of child care — the cost of motherhood — has become untenable. They don’t see “motherhood issues,” such as child care and paid leave, as substantive, economic issues worth fighting for. For decades, moms have been divided — working moms versus stay-at-home-moms, single moms versus coupled moms, Moms for Liberty versus Moms Demand Action.

Assange, who was released from prison in the UK on June 24, has long been a polarizing figure in his native Australia. Once Assange pleads guilty, under the plea agreed with the US, he will have spent five years in solitary confinement. Assange’s WikiLeaks disclosures put Western human intelligence sources at risk by the way they were dumped on the internet unredacted. He is reported to be heading to Canberra where he’ll be given a hero’s welcome by some, including his family and hardline supporters.

From there, Trump boasted that he had told White: “Why don’t you set up a migrant league of fighters and have your regular league of fighters. Obviously, Trump’s point in his migrant UFC proposal was that despite the toughness of the professional UFC fighters, the migrants coming to America are actually stronger, tougher and more dangerous. That moment came when Trump told the audience that the UFC president didn’t like the migrant fight league idea, adding, “But actually, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever had.”Trump is telling the truth there: Musing about a migrant fighting league is vile — but it’s not his worst idea. Trump proposing a dehumanizing physical battle between migrants who would then fight the UFC champions — which conjures up Roman gladiator matches — is simply more evidence of Trump’s depravity.

Weather-related deaths from extreme heat are more common than from those from hurricanes, floods, extreme cold and other natural disasters. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1,220 people die from extreme heat every year. The article also cited an organization that is preemptively hiring a new auditor in case Trump were to direct the Internal Revenue Service to target the group during a second term. Trump is telling anyone who will listen what his dark goals are for a second term — from mass deportations to the construction of expansive detention camps for migrants to expanding his presidential power. Even the strategy detailed in Sunday’s New York Times article, which included using the courts to slow down a second-term Trump agenda, is far less likely to be successful this time. One reason for this is that in his first term, Trump was able to confirm more than 200 federal judges including three US Supreme Court justices that he personally appointed. That is why second-term resistance strategies only divert resources from the more pressing imperative at hand: keeping Trump from winning a second term.

CNN —A year after his landmark advisory warning about the dangers social media poses to young people, US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy upped the ante on Monday by calling for mandated warning labels on social media apps. And he pointed out that young people spend an average of 4.8 hours on social media each day, according to a 2023 Gallup survey. Murthy is right to call on Congress to put warning labels on social networks. This could serve as the alarm parents need to protect their kids from the harmful effects of social media.

There’s another connection between Canada, asthma and my family — and it’s a somewhat accidental one. Unfortunately, the challenges that my mom faced getting asthma medication persisted. There were times that my mother didn’t fill her prescriptions for her asthma medication out of concern over the cost. Research shows that if you have a parent with asthma, you have a 25% likelihood of developing asthma yourself. But much more must be done and, as with most change, it’s important to start by admitting there’s a problem. The phenomenon of Democrats dismissing the polls in favor of misplaced optimism has been termed “hopium” by data journalist Nate Silver. Polling denial is not unanimous in the party, as many Democrats are reportedly in a full-blown “freakout” over Biden’s chances. It’s essential they admit the polling is correct, because if Biden is winning, there is little need to change course. This means these groups likely share top concerns with moderate voters generally.

If young women do indeed feel freer to opt out of sex they don’t want, that’s great. And most women desire sex, too, and deserve to have sex that feels good. This doesn’t mean everyone needs to be having sex all the time. The trick is refusing to fall into sexist ideas about what sex is for or how women should be valued.
