As many American companies struggle to navigate the world's second-largest economy, Meta Platforms has found itself raking in billions of dollars from China without the direct challenges of doing business there. The influx in spending from Chinese ecommerce advertisers has been a "significant positive" for Meta, said Rohit Kulkarni, analyst at Roth MKM covering internet companies. Many American companies doing business in China have battled similar challenges as the post-Covid recovery there has progressed slower than expected. Meta has said it has a "diverse advertiser base" of Chinese companies. The concern is that as more Chinese advertisers target American consumers through Meta's platforms, that could drive up the price of ads for everyone.

If you had the opportunity to hear activist investor Nelson Peltz, the defeated candidate for the Disney board, you did not get a definitive answer, as much as I pressed. In my CNBC interview with Peltz on Thursday, he assured us that he would be back if Iger didn't deliver on his promises. Iger talked about the board's succession committee, which former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman and now Disney board member, is on. They're confident that they'll pick the right person at the right time," Iger said on CNBC . I most feared the blowout in Disney stock in a fit of pique and right now I am not seeing that.

AdvertisementWhen employees feel the "psychological contract" between themselves and their employers is "violated," they may resort to extreme reactions, Jones said. This could also hurt the morale of remaining employees and increase attrition, according to Boodoo. "Research suggests that following a layoff, there's an increase in voluntary turnover among remaining employees.

The company says it has now delivered over one billion orders across its 85,000-store network encompassing 1,500 retail partners. "There were a lot of questions about whether Instacart would be just another pandemic fad," CEO Fidji Simo told CNBC . Simo, who took the top role at the company in 2021 and launched the Instacart Health delivery service in 2022, has made health care a personal passion. "Patients often go through years-long diagnostic odysseys, bouncing around from specialist to specialist with no one looking at the whole picture," Simo wrote on her LinkedIn.

In addition to the records, the House Democrats asked Yaccarino and Musk to detail how X plans to address Hamas-related content currently on the platform. The already "inexcusable" issue of antisemitic content on X, they wrote, had become "outright indefensible" since the deadly Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel by Hamas militants. More than two dozen House Democrats on Tuesday accused Elon Musk 's X of "profiting off violent content by a terrorist organization" and demanded that he and CEO Linda Yaccarino address Hamas -related content on the social media platform . "You have said the actual truth," Musk wrote last Wednesday in response to that post. Instead, the Democrats highlighted numerous X accounts that have reportedly been "spreading Hamas terrorist propaganda videos glorifying barbaric acts of violence against Israelis."

The meeting is the third time that Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown , D-Ohio, will hold an oversight hearing with the heads of the nation's biggest banks. Eight CEOs of the largest U.S. banks will face questioning at a Senate Banking Committee hearing in December, according to an announcement obtained by CNBC . "Part of that commitment is to hear directly from the biggest banks that hold too much power in the economy," he said. Brown and other Banking Committee members have ramped up oversight efforts in 2023, particularly regarding three banks that failed earlier in the year, Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and First Republic.
