CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police are asking the public, businesses and hunters near a state university campus to review their surveillance systems after a retired dean and professor who was married to best-selling author Ron Powers was found shot to death on a rail trail this week. Police said Friday night an autopsy showed that Honoree Fleming, 77, of Castleton, died from a gunshot wound to the head on Thursday afternoon. She was found on the Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail about a mile (1.61 kilometers) south of the Castleton campus of Vermont State University, which was closed on Friday because of the investigation. A witness reported a possible suspect was northbound on the trail walking towards the campus after gunshots were heard, police said. Sheree Rasmussen repurposed an artist's studio that her late partner built into a tiny home rental. She wanted to honor his life by letting others enjoy the space while making money on Airbnb. The 70-year-old now earns about $2,200 a month renting out the bright red tower that's 18 feet high. "When Clive passed away I pondered over what to do with it because it is such a unique building," Rasmussen told Insider. Now she rents it out for about C$150 ($112) a night.

Federal labor authorities have cited Amazon.com Inc. for safety violations at three of its warehouses, adding to previous citations the company has faced in a broad review of its workplace practices. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Wednesday it issued citations to Amazon following inspections at facilities in Aurora, Colo., Nampa, Idaho, and Castleton, N.Y. The citations follow three recent citations by the department at different Amazon sites in Florida, Illinois and New York for similar safety issues.

Federal safety inspectors on Wednesday issued citations against Amazon at three of its warehouses for putting workers at risk of serious injury, the second such penalty in a month. The move comes after OSHA last month cited Amazon for failing to keep workers safe at three other facilities. "Amazon's operating methods are creating hazardous work conditions and processes, leading to serious worker injuries," said Doug Parker, assistant secretary for Occupational Safety and Health, in a statement. Amazon also faces a separate investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office's civil division that centers around worker safety hazards at the e-retailer's facilities nationwide. As part of the probe, investigators are also looking into whether Amazon has accurately reported worker injuries and if it misrepresented those injuries to lenders to obtain credit.

The agency said workers at the Florida facility were also exposed to "struck-by" hazards, where merchandise that was unevenly stacked or not secured was susceptible to collapse. Doug Parker, the head of OSHA, said Amazon's processes were "designed for speed but not safety, and they resulted in serious worker injuries." Amazon has said it invests hundreds of millions of dollars annually to ensure worker safety. Safety concerns, including after the deaths of six workers when an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, collapsed during a December 2021 tornado, have helped spur union campaigns at Amazon warehouses across the country.

Castleton Commodities International (CCI) owns the rest of TG Natural Resources. Rockcliff and TG Natural Resources did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Tokyo Gas could not be reached for comment outside regular business hours.
