Sheree Rasmussen repurposed an artist's studio that her late partner built into a tiny home rental. She wanted to honor his life by letting others enjoy the space while making money on Airbnb. The 70-year-old now earns about $2,200 a month renting out the bright red tower that's 18 feet high. "When Clive passed away I pondered over what to do with it because it is such a unique building," Rasmussen told Insider. Now she rents it out for about C$150 ($112) a night.
The Amazon distribution facility in Aurora, Colo., was among the workplaces cited for safety violations. Federal labor authorities have cited Amazon.com Inc. for safety violations at three of its warehouses, adding to previous citations the company has faced in a broad review of its workplace practices. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Wednesday it issued citations to Amazon following inspections at facilities in Aurora, Colo., Nampa, Idaho, and Castleton, N.Y. The citations follow three recent citations by the department at different Amazon sites in Florida, Illinois and New York for similar safety issues.
Federal safety inspectors on Wednesday issued citations against Amazon at three of its warehouses for putting workers at risk of serious injury, the second such penalty in a month. The move comes after OSHA last month cited Amazon for failing to keep workers safe at three other facilities. "Amazon's operating methods are creating hazardous work conditions and processes, leading to serious worker injuries," said Doug Parker, assistant secretary for Occupational Safety and Health, in a statement. Amazon also faces a separate investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office's civil division that centers around worker safety hazards at the e-retailer's facilities nationwide. As part of the probe, investigators are also looking into whether Amazon has accurately reported worker injuries and if it misrepresented those injuries to lenders to obtain credit.
REUTERS/Pascal Rossignol/File PhotoNEW YORK, Jan 18 (Reuters) - A U.S. government agency on Wednesday issued citations against Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) for failing to keep warehouse workers safe, by exposing them to ergonomic hazards that resulted in serious injuries. The agency said workers at the Florida facility were also exposed to "struck-by" hazards, where merchandise that was unevenly stacked or not secured was susceptible to collapse. Doug Parker, the head of OSHA, said Amazon's processes were "designed for speed but not safety, and they resulted in serious worker injuries." Amazon has said it invests hundreds of millions of dollars annually to ensure worker safety. Safety concerns, including after the deaths of six workers when an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, collapsed during a December 2021 tornado, have helped spur union campaigns at Amazon warehouses across the country.

Castleton Commodities International (CCI) owns the rest of TG Natural Resources. Rockcliff and TG Natural Resources did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Tokyo Gas could not be reached for comment outside regular business hours. In October, Tokyo Gas agreed to sell its stakes in a portfolio of four Australian liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects for $2.15 billion to a unit of U.S. investment firm EIG.
Zeldin hopes to end a two-decade drought for Republicans seeking statewide office in New York. “New Yorkers are ready,” Zeldin said. Her support in a primary for an upstate congressional district of right-wing political activist Carl Paladino who lost to the state Republican chair drew the ire of some in the state party. While there are about 3 million unaffiliated voters in New York, a successful Republican candidate has to make inroads with registered Democrats. “When I got elected they were saying the same things about me that they’re saying about Zeldin,” Pataki said.
Oct 18 (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) workers have so far voted 150 to 76 against forming a union at their upstate-New York warehouse, with more ballots to be counted as of Tuesday morning. At ALB1, the retailer's fulfillment center in Castleton-on-Hudson, employees had the chance to decide whether to join the Amazon Labor Union in the company's fourth union election of the year. The longer-established Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union also was unable to organize an Amazon warehouse in Alabama this year, though that result is not yet final. Amazon workers and supporters at an Amazon Labor Union rally in Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y., earlier this month. Amazon.com workers in upstate New York voted against unionizing, a setback for labor activists trying to expand their unionization push at the tech giant. The National Labor Relations Board said about 66% of employees who cast valid ballots at a company facility near Albany rejected the Amazon Labor Union, which earlier this year won a landmark union vote at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island, N.Y.

Just this month, it petitioned to hold a union vote in an Amazon warehouse in Southern California, and it backed a staff protest of work conditions in Staten Island following a fire; Amazon suspended some workers afterward. A simple majority of valid ballots submitted by Amazon workers will determine if the upstate-New York facility unionizes.
