A millennial moved from the South to Montreal in 2015 to "get cultured" and attend graduate school. He said food, safety, healthcare, and quality of life are the biggest perks of living in Montreal. But he said he wants to move back to Texas for the weather, lower cost of living, and his family. In recent years, millions of Americans have moved south. CNN —US Rep. Colin Allred will win the Democratic nomination in Texas to take on Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, CNN projects. Allred defeated state Sen. Roland Gutierrez and seven other contenders in the Democratic primary Tuesday. Six years after then-Rep. Beto O’Rourke shattered fundraising records with his near-miss bid to unseat Cruz, Texas Democrats are trying again. Republican Sen. John Cornyn cruised to a 10-point reelection win in 2020, and GOP Gov. Cruz, meanwhile, easily overcame marginal opposition from two little-known Republican primary challengers as he seeks a third term.

Upholding that proud tradition, President Joe Biden is headed to the border on Thursday — and so is former President Donald Trump. I’m a lifelong resident of Arizona, and border-state voters have heard a lot of talk, but haven’t seen much action. The president’s only other visit to the border was a year ago, briefly stopping in El Paso before racing back home. This would at least mitigate Biden’s polling drop while also giving border states and blue cities a respite from the migrant influx. They’re done with photo-ops next to broken border walls and other campaign stunts.

SpaceX has filed to relocate its business incorporation from Delaware to Texas. The move follows a Delaware judge's decision to void CEO Elon Musk a $55 billion Tesla pay package. AdvertisementSpaceX, which was incorporated in the famously corporation-friendly Delaware, filed to relocate its business incorporation with the Texas Secretary of State, Bloomberg reported. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk publicly railed against the Diamond State and a judge's decision to void his $55 billion Tesla pay package. "The public vote is unequivocally in favor of Texas," Musk wrote on February 1.

Musk's Tesla pay was structured without a salary to involve 12 stock option awards that would only be given once performance goals for each of them were met. Though Musk can appeal the decision, there are signs that this battle is about more than just the massive pay package that has propelled him to a $205 billion fortune. The carmaker is currently worth $600 billion, up from roughly $50 billion in 2018, when Musk received his pay plan. So it's reasonable to take Musk at face value when he says his Tesla pay, as McCormick put it, is a "means of bankrolling that mission." Closer to home, Musk's legal battle could trigger a rethink of where Corporate America goes to do business.

Should Trump Believe the Polls?

Former President Donald Trump is a polls guy. He’s currently languishing in fourth place, according to polls, behind Trump, Florida Gov. “In 2016, we experienced the phenomenon of the silent Trump voter, those who were secretly for Trump but feared being ostracized if they said so publicly,” he wrote. “A majority of the party is Maybe Trump,” Ayres says. A separate New Hampshire primary poll from Monmouth University and The Washington Post taken Nov. 9-14 shows similar results.

"Every time a prospective client calls me, it's one of the first things I talk about," Bailey told Business Insider. AdvertisementAdvertisementWhen my first child was born, I found myself faced with the harsh reality of no guaranteed maternity leave in the US. And, while the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) gives eligible employees 12 weeks of unpaid leave, I wasn't eligible for that. It was one of those non-negotiable parts of American work culture that I felt I had to accept. But if there's a standard of maternity leave throughout the country and company, it makes it much easier to find coverage for those nine or more months. When my maternity leave ended and I asked the school to take another year off — this time without pay but with continued job security — they were 100% understanding.

Texas developers continue to build offices, even though office-vacancy rates are high. That's because Texas developers build too much. Even with those numbers, Eckert told the Journal that new office completions in Texas eclipsed every other market. Part of that cleansing is converting office buildings into something new , giving them a chance at a new lease on life. Overall, Eckert isn't worried about the office vacancies in Texas, as that is just one data point that doesn't tell the whole story.

Marie Bailey moved from California to Texas with her husband and daughter in 2017. When we went on our first date together, we said: "One day we're going to leave California." We didn't want to pay that rent forever, so we were looking at how much houses cost in El Segundo. Officials say an $11 billion public-transit plan could make Austin safer, greener, and more affordable. Austinites voted to approve Project Connect in 2020 when its total price tag was $7.1 billion. However, nearly 50% of the riders of MetroRail — the city's current rail system — earn more than $60,000 a year. Public-transit advocates say the plan is worth the costSupporters of Project Connect are open to lowering its price tag. But on a larger scale, Project Connect supporters say that public transportation provides better access to healthcare, education, employment, and affordable housing.
Opinion | When Mass Shootings Become Almost Daily Events

Greg Abbott issued a statement after a mass shooting, saying, “Our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas, tonight during this unspeakable tragedy.”Time after time we hear about thoughts and prayers after mass killings. The assault weapon and large-capacity magazine ban was the law of the land from 1994 to 2004. Data shows that during that period there was a decrease in mass killings by weapons of war. The data also shows that since the expiration of the ban, there has been a significant increase in mass killings with assault weapons. Proponents of gun rights often comment that a good guy with a gun is how to stop a bad guy with a gun.
“I hear our governor talking about mental health issues,” Spainhouer said of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott during a Monday appearance on “CNN This Morning.”“We’re always going to have mental health issues. “Until we take some definite actions, we’re changing the narrative about it being just a mental health issue and start doing something about the guns,” he added. Texas ranks last on mental health accessIt was a major understatement for Abbott to say that Texas merely lags on mental health. A report from the nonprofit Mental Health America places the state at or near the bottom of multiple metrics for mental health care.
The local utility in charge of overseeing the interconnection process told Pine Gate it would be more than $30 million. Pine Gate had to terminate the project because it couldn't afford the new fees, its vice president of regulatory affairs, Brett White, told CNBC. "Those projects ended up withdrawing from the queue or terminating, because they don't pencil anymore," White told CNBC. "There is Texas, and then there's the rest of the country with respects to interconnection," White of Pine Gate told CNBC. And that means getting those engineers out of some of the rote manual data entry and into the actual analysis," White told CNBC.
