The US has been trying to keep the feral pig population — estimated to be between 6 and 9 million — in check for over a decade. Feral pigs will eat almost anythingAlan Biggerstaff of Nuisance Wildlife Management & Control set up hog traps in Texas in 2019. Mayer has seen feral hogs forage at landfills and feed on diapers, rubber bands, and plastic. AdvertisementWhen feral pigs start rooting in grass, they can leave a mess behind, as this photo from 2014 shows. Mayer said another factor that makes controlling wild hogs difficult is that the entire country is a mosaic of different methods.

mary zieglerWell, I think it’s much easier to ban abortion than it is to enforce a criminal law against abortion. mary zieglerNo, I think that’s right. If our abortion politics don’t reflect our abortion views, what does that tell us about the health of the democracy? We’ve seen upwards of 10 states — I think it’s 14 or 15 that have changed their definition of abortion in abortion restrictive states since Dobbs. So, the idea is that abortions that are presented as life saving either are not abortions or are simply pretexts for abortion that’s elective.

I Love Images | Cultura | Getty ImagesRising interest rates are pushing auto loan rates upwards for both new and used cars across the U.S. "If you have good credit, you get lower interest rates," he said. "If you have poor credit, you're going to get higher interest rates." Interest rates on used cars currently are the highest in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia. The longevity risk associated with used cars is yet another factor driving up interest rates for car shoppers, Yoon said.

Mike DeWine of Ohio, a Republican, argued that Tuesday’s vote over how to amend the State Constitution was about protecting the state from a flood of special interest money. Secretary of State Frank LaRose, another Republican, urged voters to protect the “very foundational rules” of their constitution. But Ohio voters clearly didn’t buy it. But the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade has shifted the political intensity on the issue, reshaping a once mostly-silent coalition of liberal, swing and moderate Republican voters into a political force. “We’ve taken it on the chin since Dobbs,” said Michael Gonidakis, president of Ohio Right to Life in Columbus, Ohio, who helped organize efforts supporting the proposal on Tuesday.

Ohio Democrats Chairwoman Elizabeth Walters mocked a Republican who complained about Issue 1. Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman had complained proponents didn't have enough time to campaign. But it was Ohio Republicans who pushed for the amendment to stymie abortion rights to be on the August ballot. "Like, saying the obvious thing out loud, you picked the date dude," Walters said during a call with reporters. Ohio Republicans hastily set the special election after previously moving to outlaw most August elections, citing low turnout.

Tishara Morehouse chipped in 16 points for the Eagles. The Cougars (23-11) were the Eagles' victims this time, as 16 points and 12 rebounds from Tara Wallack wasn't enough to propel Washington State to its fifth straight win. Here are more results from the first half of Saturday's action in the women's NCAA Tournament. It was the first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance for Saint Louis, which won the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Crop Watch producers have been evaluating yield potential for their corn and soy fields on a weekly basis since early July. CORNThe third and fourth harvested Crop Watch corn fields, Indiana and southeastern Illinois, were both completed on Sunday, and the results diverged. Indiana was among the driest Crop Watch locations this summer, but soil moisture was high at the start of the season, delaying planting. Crop Watch corn fields could be completed this coming week in Nebraska, eastern Iowa and North Dakota. Photos of the Crop Watch fields can be tracked on my Twitter feed using handle @kannbwx.
After careful consideration, Tara and Justin chose to terminate the pregnancy, both to protect Tara's life and to prevent Griffyn from suffering. But she says she consulted with a hospital lawyer, who said Tara couldn't get the abortion because of the new Ohio law. "I literally have never felt more helpless in my life," Justin added. In her email, Whitmarsh said that protections for the mother are "extremely clear" under Ohio law and that "the life of the mother is protected by the law undeniably." She explained that she then had "an abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance."
